Bachelor ' s Club The Bachelor ' s Club is an organization for the students enrolled in Home Economics. It is the purpose of this Club to: 1 . promote a growing appreciation of the joys of home living. 2. emphasize worthy membership 3. encourage democracy in the home and in the community 4. work for good home and family life for all 5. promote international good will 6. foster development of creative leadership 7. provide individual and group reaction 8. further interest in Home Economics Miss Gloria Hankins organized this Club and served as sponsor. 1st Row, Left to Right, Sitting. Academic Games The West Jefferson High School Academic Games Club has been very active this past year. Team members have participated in many tour- naments, games, and championships. At these various contests the club has represented West Jefferson very well by winning many awards and much recognition. The competition includes math games called On-Sets and Equations, Eng- lish games called Linguistiks and Propaganda, and Social Studies games called Mr. President and Ameri-EuroCard. Members of the club have to excel in one or all of the fields of English, Math, or Social Studies to make one of the teams. Mem- bers learn a great deal throughout the competi- tion, which lasts from October til April. They learn how to compete well with others. They learn how to win and lose gracefully. They learn how to meet new people and challenges. Also they learn a great deal about Math, English, and Social Studies. It is the goal of the team members to reach the Academic Olympics held at the end of the school year, usually in Kentucky, Tennessee, or Georgia. At the Olympics students compete for national titles. Over the years, West Jeff students have won several titles. Mrs. O ' Brien and Mrs. Delaune serve as head sponsors to this useful organization. 1st Row, Left to Right. BETA Club The Beta Club is an organization open to those students who maintain a 3.0 or better average. The purpose of the club is not to better its members, but to better others by relaying Leadership, Charac- ter, and responsibility throughout our community and school. The state convention is the highlight of the year for the members. We attend the convention to obtain a better understanding of what Beta is all about. This year, we have participated in the Senior Ring Ceremony, career night and sold concessions at the basketball games. We currently have 19 members and hope to induct more members by the end of the year. Mrs. Doescher serves as sponsor to this organization. 1st Row, L to R.
