Bucs 14 Patriots 20 The biggest game on the Westbank took place between the Bucs and the Patriots of John Ehret. West Jeff started out on the right foot by driving down the field after capitalizing on an Ehret fum- ble with Aaron Kent doing the honors from the 2- yd line. After being down 20-6, the Bucs began the climb up with Clarence Rodrigue hitting Daryll Triplett with a 27-yd TD; he then hit Cordell Rob- inson with the two-point conversion. A Bucca- neer rally in the 4th quarter fell short, therefore giving Ehret the so-called West Bank Crown. But hey — who cares about Westbank when there is a state title on the fine? Hey, man, watch it. Buccaneers on the rampage. Playoffs Bucs 14 Jesuit 28 The Superdome was the spot for the first game of the playoffs. The Bucs were stunned by the ini- tial possession of the Blue Jays as they jumped out to a 21 point lead over the Bucs. That 21 point lead was cut to 14 as Phil Ezell picked up a fum- ble (caused by a thunderous hit by Mark Price) and ran 36 yds for a TD. In the third quarter the Bucs, led by Clarence Rodrigue, drove the length of the field for a score. The last scoring threat was halted and the Blue Jays went on to win. I could use a recliner, but you ' ll do. 110

WJ27EJ20 Tonight the Bucs took on their arch-rivals, the East Jefferson Warriors. EJ scored first, but the Bucs came back with a 14-yard pass from Dexter Henderson to Cor ' dell Robinson. The second scoring drive was capped by a 1-yard run by Aaron Kent. A great running show was presented to the crowd by Junior running back James Bat- tle. After a series of runs by Battle, Edwin Brazil ran 12-yards for the score. When starting QB Dexter Henderson was momentarily injured and sat out for a play, Jr QB Clarence Rodrigue went to work. For that one play he was in the game, he threw a 10-yd TD pass to Aaron Kent. James Brown, Darren Johnson, and Juan Common each had key interceptions in this suspenseful game. With this win the Bucs were assured a playoff spot. Darren Johnson breaks up a play. Patriot runner catches Scarlet Fever. Aaron Kent getting extra yardage. Bucs 1 6 Broadmoor 15 One of the most important games of the season is tonight. It is not for the district title, not the state championship, but it is the homecoming game and the Bucs face Broadmoor of Baton Rouge. The Bucs were down 3-0 at the half, but in the third quarter, they came to life by driving 67-yds in eight plays with Aaron Kent getting 44 of them and the last 5 for the go-ahead TD. A Buccaneer pass was intercepted, but when the interceptor tried to return it, Steve Marchese came up, made what looked like a hit, then scooted down the sidelines with the ball tucked under his arm, but was brought down at the 6-yd line. Kent took care of the problem two plays later with a one yard plunge. Broadmoor scored, cutting down the lead. On the next possession, the Bucs went on to a 16-9 lead with a 13-yd FG by Myron Big M . But Broadmoor wouldn ' t stop. They scored with 2:23 left in the game, making the score 1 5-1 6; and the question was to win or to tie. Broadmoor ' s answer was to win, but the Bucs ' answer, stated by Juan Common and Joe Morton was to lose. The Buc answer was right. 109
