Bucs22Bruins7 Friday the 13th proved to be an unlucky day as it was believed to be, in ways for both the Bucs and the Bruins. For the Bucs were almost late to the game by being held up, 1) by a burning car, and 2) by a wreck on the bridge. But the Bucs didn ' t mind the extra rest that the unluckiness of the day brought. The day also brought some luck to, Amando Castillo on a 45 yd TD pass; to Daryll Triplett on another scoring pass play; to Dexter Henderson on a 25 yd scoring run, and extra luck to Channing Bennett who replaced Steve Marchese early in the game. Bucs 27 Wildcats 20 The pattern for the outcome of this game was set early in the game by Mr. Outside , Daryll Tri- plett, Quicksilver ' s pride and joy. He ran the opening kickoff back 96 yds for the first Bucca- neer TD. The second scoring drive was capped off by a 12 yd run by Dexter Henderson. The third Buccaneer TD was by West Jefferson ' s Mr. Inside , Aaron Kent, who bulldozed his way to the Bucs ' 3 yd line; two plays later he scored from the 1. Midway in the fourth quarter, the Bucs scored still another TD, this one, a 14 yd pass from Dex- ter Henderson to TE Cordell Robinson. The Scar- let Fever Defense played an excellent game, with- out two of the original starters, but Sophomore and Junior DBs Juan Common and Channing Bennett held up their own with the more experi- enced competition. Come on Aaron, get me out of this. Joe Morton tackling a Patriot. All RBs found out that Scarlet Fever was a raging epidemic. 108

BucsO Bulldogs 29 Plagued by injuries and needing a rest, the Bucs traveled to Lutcher to face the No. 2 ranked triple A power. Quicksilver and Scarlet Fever just couldn ' t get it together. The Bulldogs just out- manned the Scarlet and Silver squad and strip- ped them of their No. 1 ranking. Joe Morton takes an interception. Bucs 20 Roneagles 13 After two hard weeks on the road, the Bucs are glad to be home again. The Roneagles were not ready for what the Bucs had in store for them. A 50 yard drive was capped off by Dexter Hender- son going over from the one. A Scarlet fever blocked punt on the 20 yard line set up the next Buc TD, this one by Superman Aaron Kent. The final WJ tally capped a 60-yard drive. It came when Dexter Henderson scooted around end for 50-yds. This win gave the Bucs extra confidence for the opening district game next week. WJ27EJ20 Tonight the Bucs took on their arch-rivals, the East Jefferson Warriors. EJ scored first, but the Bucs came back with a 14-yard pass from Dexter Henderson to Cor ' dell Robinson. The second scoring drive was capped by a 1-yard run by Aaron Kent. A great running show was presented to the crowd by Junior running back James Bat- tle. After a series of runs by Battle, Edwin Brazil ran 12-yards for the score. When starting QB Dexter Henderson was momentarily injured and sat out for a play, Jr QB Clarence Rodrigue went to work. For that one play he was in the game, he threw a 10-yd TD pass to Aaron Kent. James Brown, Darren Johnson, and Juan Common each had key interceptions in this suspenseful game. With this win the Bucs were assured a playoff spot. Darren Johnson breaks up a play. Patriot runner catches Scarlet Fever. Aaron Kent getting extra yardage. Bucs 1 6 Broadmoor 15 One of the most important games of the season is tonight. It is not for the district title, not the state championship, but it is the homecoming game and the Bucs face Broadmoor of Baton Rouge. The Bucs were down 3-0 at the half, but in the third quarter, they came to life by driving 67-yds in eight plays with Aaron Kent getting 44 of them and the last 5 for the go-ahead TD. A Buccaneer pass was intercepted, but when the interceptor tried to return it, Steve Marchese came up, made what looked like a hit, then scooted down the sidelines with the ball tucked under his arm, but was brought down at the 6-yd line. Kent took care of the problem two plays later with a one yard plunge. Broadmoor scored, cutting down the lead. On the next possession, the Bucs went on to a 16-9 lead with a 13-yd FG by Myron Big M . But Broadmoor wouldn ' t stop. They scored with 2:23 left in the game, making the score 1 5-1 6; and the question was to win or to tie. Broadmoor ' s answer was to win, but the Bucs ' answer, stated by Juan Common and Joe Morton was to lose. The Buc answer was right. 109
