Zefa Gonuenfzbn On Friday morning, I anuary 30, 40 girls boarded a Greyhound Bus at the school to attend the Annual Beta Club Convention at the Capitol House in Baton Rouge. The convention was held Friday and Satur- day, the 30th and 31st of January. The Beta Club girls voted to nominate Sally Evans for State Secretary. X 1 ki fir CHORAL SPEAKING ASSEMBLY PROGRAM , . , In ever living color Presented of the five speech classes Speech I, II, and III Choral speaking is an enjoyable group activity which can have two outcomes: improved speech resulting from attention to thought, language, and actiong and increased appreciation of literature as a result of studying meaning, feeling and form, and oral presentation. The students wore scarlet red shirts and rnade a most dramatic entrance by marching in singing The Children's Marching Song. By popular request Mr. Howard gave his rendi- tion of Daniel. . . The White Cliffs Linda Flanagan -'Q' The group presented: The Lobster Quadrille, Boots, Johnny at the Fair, The Marine's Hymn. Daniel, Blow the Man Down, The Grand Old Duke of York, One, Two, Three.

The Muses, Mnemosyne, their Mother, their horse, Pegosus, and Bellerophon. 11121611 Gfzsszcafbbeayue In a stately setting of academic significance and in the glow of symbolic candles, twenty-six new members were initiated recently into the West Jefferson High School Chap- ter of the Junior Classical League. The meeting was held in the school library. The rites were most impressive. Distinguished visitors were Mr. Martina, Principal of West Jefferson, and Mr, Whitney Zeringue, President of the Krewe of Poseidon, and King Poseidon of 1959. Mr. Martina addressed the meeting, then introduced Mr. Zer- ingue, who also gave an inspiring talk, He was then pre- sented with a plaque of mounted parchment upon which were painted symbols and an account of the work of his organization. After the ceremonies of initiation Mnemosyne and her daughters, the nine Muses, entertained. The Muses brought along their horse, Pegasus, accompanied by his driver, Bel- lerophon. A Mardi Gras parade was held, and this was followed by a skit narrated by Betty Grow. Cries of Throw me something, Muses brought rewards of lovely souvenirs thrown out from the parade. A profusion of ribbon confetti then bound all members together in fun and gaiety while delicious sandwiches, cook- ies, coca-cola, and other refreshments were being served. Mr. Zeringue was crowned guest king, and Johnny Burmaster QPresidentj king of the Chapter. Mr. Martina was decorated with classical ivy. Tommy Benoit, in toga and laurel wreath served as scribe of the day and master of the opening procession. He was assisted by his slave. Being capped if!! A Look what I've got. ufure Nurses The Future Nurses Initiation was most successful. The initiation was a solemn candlelight ceremony. After the ceremony, gifts were exchanged and refreshments were served. Enjoying the goodies
