Text from Pages 1 - 168 of the 1987 volume:

Once upon a time in a land far, far away — known to the local inhabitants as “ Zhe Kid ye” — the question was asked about an obscure island ‘‘Where Girls fust Wanna Have 7un.” Deciding that extensive research was needed to determine the island’s exact location, the students in “ Weird Science” “Class?’ of the local high school determined to make this search their “Science Project. ” Zhe work began with great intensity. Students even went “Pack to School' for “Private Wessons” from their “ Zeachers” in order to aid in the research. After several weeks of mind boggling research, the solution was no closer. Zhe girls on the research team began to despair of ever finding a solution and soon all they wanted to know was “ Where the Poys Ard’? Zhen a strange thing began to happen. On “ Friday the 13th”, the head of the team, ffason Kidge Kunner. began to make some astounding discoveries. “Against All Odds”, ffason discovered a flaw in their process. Jt seemed that some of the team was only interested in “Making the Grade” and not locating the island. Once he discovered this flaw, “ffason jCive(d)” for the moment that he could expose the frauds. Deciding that only underhanded chicanery would bring the deception to light, ffason approached the frauds with Zerms of Endearment” and said that they would all have “Places in (his) Heart” for the fine work they were doing. As he suspected, the frauds felt so bad that they went to the head of the team, whom they all called” My Zutor”, and explained their deception. Zhey were forgiven and the work really began in earnest. Once the team was working as one body, they made astounding progress in their search for the island. Zheir discoveries have all been documented and are now being presented as the “1987 Kebel”. Jeania Brown emy Wilcox, Jason Lutz Editor: Vicki Messamore Each year, the Rebel Staff strives to produce an outstanding yearbook. This involved a lot of hours, a lot of headaches and a lot of re-doing. This past year, the seniors on the staff were fortunate enough to go to Clarksville, Tennessee, to see the yearbook in production and to talk with various workers at the plant to find out how what they drew up actually turned into a yearbook. Hopefully this trip will become an annual affair as much helpful knowledge was gained. (Although a stable would have been preferable to a Hut.) Many thanks to the staff for another good year. Principal: Doug Harris Records Clerk: Hilda Lamb Sec.: Charlotte Ethridge ADMINISTRATION Mr. Morgan, our principal, is a well respected man. He’s a concerned principal who keeps this school running well. He’s affectionately referred to as Gover- nor Gatlin’’ by the students, Mr. Morgan responds warmly, We have fine students here at West and it’s nice to see them advance in their social and educational lives. He enjoys working with the faculty. They work together in joint effort trying to reach a goal. That goal is educating the high school students of West Hopkins. Mr. Morgan has been with West for twenty four years. During the course of those years, he served as coach, teacher, and is currently principal. He has seen this school progress from approximately two hundred and ninty students and sixteen teachers to four hundred and seven- ty students and thirty-one teachers. New programs, such as, art and foreign languages have been inserted onto the school’s curriculum. These, according to Mr. Morgan, have been good changes and are an asset to the school. When asked for advice to give the graduating seniors, he replied, Learn to have a positive attitude and understand the value of hard work. I think that’s the key to a productive future. They work faithfully at keeping our school in tip-top condition. Thanks guys. Custodians: George Brown and Mark McGregor WHAT WAS YOUR MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENT? A. Parker I've had several, but one of the most embarrassing moments occurred several years ago when Mrs. Davis and I were going to the state tournament. We had stopped to eat at Jerry's Restaurant on the way to Louisville. We decided to go to the restroom before we left. I blindly followed her through the door where I heard her gasp Oh! She stopped so suddenly I bumped into her. We both realized we were in the wrong restroom when we saw a man combing his hair. C. Ridenour My most embarrassing moment occurred a few years ago in the classroom. My bulletin board had been decorated by an artistically-inclined student. The design — much of it black — was done in chalks. After struggling tiptoeing, stretching, reaching — to replace a letter which had fallen from the board’s message. I turned toward the class. Strange expressions filled the room. What was wrong? Upon checking. I found black spots on my light blue sweater — in certain strategic locations! M. Cole Once, while on vacation, I had the key to the motel room and was going on ahead while my brother registered. Since I often have trouble with stuck keys, I though nothing about having a hard time getting the door open. To my surprise, when I finally forced the door open. I found it already occupied by a newly married couple. Our room was across the hall, as my brother pointed out when he arrived. M. Bergdolt When I flipped up the movie screen too quickly and it vaulted” off its hook to hit me in the head and land on my feet. I was trying to lend a note of seriousness to the film I had been showing: The subject matter was lost after that moment. B. Carrico My most embarrassing moment was when I was told my pants needed zipping several minutes after the start of one of those fourth-hour classes last year. 72 Faculty 73 Classes FRESHMEN OFFICERS The Freshmen Class Officers are: Tim Marsh — Pres., Verl Todd — Vice Pres, (front row) Stephanie Vaughn — Sec., Krista Harris — Tres., Jamie Pate — St. Council Rep., Ben Whitfield — Sgt.-at-arms (back row) FRESHMEN FAVORITES The Freshmen Class Favorites are: Sherry Stoafer and Aaron Farmer Jimmy Brewer Kattie Brown Melinda Buntin Tammy Burden Tracey Babb Kelly Belt Christine Black Mary Bowles James Brewer Christy Carroll Susan Cavanah Anette Clayton Wesley Adamson Angela Anglin Bobby Allen Matt Allen Milissa Allen Rufus Almon Jeremy Clayton Michael Cobb Stacey Copple Marnita Cummings Sonya Cunningham Clarence Dalton Sherry Dame I Jason Darnell Lydia Davis Judy Dehart Reba DeMoss Kim Downs David Drueusicke Donnie Duke Steve Duncan Travanda Eaves Daniel Ellis Aaron Farmer Melinda Flint Jeff Florea Anthony Foe Mike Freels Freshmen 75 Lenny Garrison Cameisha Gilmore Steve Gibson Amy Gipson Chuck Gordon Crystal Grimes Stephanie Hamilton Krista Harris Brian Hart Donald Hart Delena Haulk Rhonda Head Karen Higbee Christy Higgs Veatrus Hopson Carla Jenkins Pal Lawrence Chad Love Brandon Lynn Jesse McCarty Thomas McElvain Ernie McKissic Tim Marsh Carroll Morrow Duane Nance Clyde Nesmith Jennifer Noble Valerie Noffsinger Jennifer Martin Danny Massey Leslie Menser Amy Mitchell 76 Freshmen Brian Stallins Christy Slaton Larry Sutton Brandon Terry Danny Thompson Chris Oakley Jennifer Oldham Steve Parish Alen Parker Jamie Pate Mark Peyton Joe Pollard Bryon Rainwater Kim Reynolds Billy Rice Becky Robins Angie Robinson Bill Sanger Gina Thorpe Angela Todd Verl Todd Jennifer Turner Drey Vancleve Dwayne Varble Stephanie Vaughn Scott Williams Anthony Winters George White Ben Whitfield Ramona Yeisley Jason Young Freshmen 77 The Sophomore class officers are : Front row: Middle — Jer- emiah Jones, Pres., Right — Kim Noffsinger, V-Pres., Left — Jill Musgrove, Sec., Back row: Middle — Tim Clark, Treas., Right — Wayne Fuller, Sgt. at arms, Left — Teryl Tucker, Student Council Rep.
