PRINCIPAUS MESSAGE 'Somewhere within their walls all that forwards perfect human life be started, Tried, taught, adavanced, visibly exhibitedf I would like to express my admiration and thanks to the Annual Board for its excellent work in publishing this 1956 Annual. The members worked hard and long, with little help from the rest of us. Well done! To the graduates of 1956 who have spent three short years fonly 540 school dayslj, we hope that they carry away lasting memories of work and play, and friendships formed in class and on the team. May the good seed sown here bring forth fruit in the years to come so that their lives may be rich and full, filled with good desires and worthy ambitious, bringing joy and inspiration to all their friends, parents and teachers. To those of us who remain, may this year of work bring us its reward -appreciation of the excellent opportunities offered us, and an earnest desire to use them to the best of our ability next year. Happy, happy holiday. EDITORIAL This summer, we, the second graduating class of the new West Hill, will be recipients of diplomas stating our academic abilities and successes. Doubtless our persevering teachers have trained us well, this type of know- ledge, however, is not capable of building a nation by itself, for citizenship is also essential. 'Progress demands keen minds and strong wills to keep it moving in the right direction. Fortunate we are in taking on our responsibilities in a time when Canada is prospering, expanding and maturing. Primarily we are needed by our country to mold it and make it great. For this task we must rely upon character, good judgement and determination, as well as know- ledge obtained from textbooks. It is with pride that we are able to say that West Hill has prepared us well, with three years of valuable social and academic training, to meet this challenge. Our graduates will help give the twentieth century to Canada. Perhaps they will make their contributions in the fields of politics, science, religion, education or economics. We are sure, however, that they ,will do credit to the name of their school and carry the fine tradition established by West Hill not only far into national prominence but also into international fame while representing a youthful, vigorous and responsible nation, Canada. We wish to extend our congratulations to Miss Epstein on her forth- coming marriage and we wish her many years of marital happiness. The editors feel certain that the entire student body shares their feelings. 6
