The publication - now in its second year - was able to go beyond the point where other West publications had stopped. Through its use of in-depth, informative reporting, the magazine was able to educate the student body on such important, school-related is- sues as crime, Army Recruiters, and Indo- chinese students. The year did not pass solely in glory, how- ever. A major problem the paper faced was financing: because it is not at all subsidized by the school, the staff had to go through the pain of getting advertisments and . . . when worse came to worse, the staff picked up the tab themselves. Another problem Westword faces is that a large number of staff members are graduating this year. In any case, the staff should be commend- ed, and thanked, for providing West with an interesting publication that presents both new ideas and different viewpoints. zzfpiscfi-wssrwoizp Z? PEP CLUB Pep Club experienced a change in poli- cy this year that had a dramatic effect on the future of athlete's stomachs and lockers. The Big BrotherfLittle Sister plan, in which freshman girls baked cookies and made encouraging signs for varsity athletes, was abolished. Appar- ently, many parents and faculty consid- ered this tradition sexist. The club, led by Danieann Demitros, hopes in the fu- ture to rouse the student body with bake sales, flower sales, and enthusiastic signs. They sched- uled the bands, woke up bright and early a few Saturdays to decorate the cafe for the formals and also conducted court elections. When the Social Committee was not busy planning for a dance they were at Mr. Manke's house watching videos, eating pizza and SOCIALIZING! 24fPEP CLUB-SOCIAL COMMITTEE s wi' Row 1: Leslie Myrah, Graham Willoughby.
