IMC Eighteen to twenty students earn one fourth credit a semester working in the IMC one class period every day. The librarians would be at a loss without them. These special students are treated as real job applicants with a one half hour-long job interview conducted by advisors Mrs. Gutzmer and Mrs. Lundin. They are usually trained on the job, but are sometimes required to come in before school. Jobs include: clipping articles about the School of Excellence from local Kand nationalj newspapers, stamping new books with the MADISON WEST HIGH seal, organizing the books when students jam them into the return slot, replacing old magazines with new ones, and, of course, filing things alphabetically. These smiling students at the desk who look at your ID and stamp your book are obviously not just your Pro Joe Average West High Stu- dents, these helpers definetely earn their one fourth credit. gg. u-vvv!m YNONFICTION7 A - 'i fl in s . , I f 2 3, Q- ,- .1-Q.. R DID CLUB 14fIMC-RADIO Radio Club meets under the su- pervision of Mr. Manke every Wednesday, after school in either room 333 or 361. In both of these rooms, electronic equipment is hid- den everywhere. The members of Radio Club use short wave radios to contact other hams lshort wave radio operatorsj alliaround the world. To be able to use the radios, you must know morse code and electronic theory, although this is not a prerequisite to join the club, as only two members, one of whom is longtime member and graduating senior John Oghalai, have a license to operate. Every Christmas, Radio Club sponsors a Radiogram Service to West High students. The students can give a message to the Radio Club. The club will then relay the message to whomever it's meant for, passing through many short wave radio stations. Finally, a Ham who lives in the city where the message is to be received calls the receiver and tells him the message. At the end of the year, to cele- brate fun times and high adven- ture, the Radio Club has a huge pizza party, stuffing themselves to the max.
