Provides New Leadership Many new changes have been made this year in school oftice procedure. Mrs. Arleen Conner, Mrs. Jane Mitchell, Mrs. Irene Kimball and Mrs. Bernice Engen see to it that the oltice functions run smoothly at all times. Mrs. Engen, Mrs. Kimball, Mrs. Mitchell, and Mrs. Conner. Mrs. Piper, Miss Perego and Ctopj Mrs. Stack, Mr. Barnes, and Mr. Speerschneider. Students find books and research materials under the assistance of Mrs. Josephine Rentz and Mrs. Carolyn Cain, school librarians. Mrs. Cain and Mrs. Rentz also train and work with student library workers to keep the library run- ning etticiently. Q 523' The important job of helping students choose programs is done by the guidance department at West. The department consists of Mrs. Kathryn Piper, Mrs. Myrtle Stack, Miss Betty Perego, Mr. Leo Barnes and Mr. James Speerschneider. Donald Krider Assistant Principals: Orris Boettcher 6 FACULTY The school year i964-T965 marked the begin- ning ot a number of important changes at West The changes were carried out by West's new principal, Mr. Douglas Ritchie, who came to West after fourteen years in Port Washington, Wiscon- sin. With the help ot assistant principals Orris Boettcher and Donald Krider, Mr. Ritchie incor- porated many changes into the school-day: The l.B.M. grading system, the lengthened lunch and class periods, and more time between classes The main philosophy underlying the changes. Mr. Ritchie said, is to encourage more independ ence on the part of the student. An example ot the attempt to give more independence to the stu dents this year was seen in the issuing of honor passes. Mr. Boettcher, who came to West atter serving as principal in Dodgeville, was in charge of at tendance and disciplinary measures. Mr. Krider's main administrative duty was in the organization of instructional services. I
