FRENCH CLUB Members of French Club have an opportunity to gain an understanding of the life and culture of France. All meetings are conducted in conversational French, in order that members might have an oppor- tunity to become better acquainted with the French language. The activities of the club include playing French games and singing French folk songs, to acquaint members with the people of France. This year's French club president was Karen Horney. The vice-president was David Hill. First semester secretary was Norma Himsel, and Made- leine Netboy was the second semester secretary. Miss Morgan is the club adviser. GERMAN CLUB In German Club, members share traveling experi- ences, and learn more about the culture, history, and people in Germany. Throughout the year they in- crease their German vocabulary by singing German songs, playing games, and conducting all of their meetings in the German language. Since several of the members have been to, or lived in Germany, they have been able to share their experiences of German life with the other members. SPANISH CLUB Spanish club offers its members experiences which give a deeper insight and understanding in the Span- ish language and Spanish speaking peoples. Part of each meeting is conducted in Spanish. Speakers from Spain and other authorities on Spanish- speaking nations offer their ideas and experiences to the members of the club. Movies, travelogues, and Spanish-folk games also provide interesting meetings. At Christmas, the club further follows Spanish cus- toms by ubreaking the pinata -a large, candy-hlled, papier-mache ornament which is suspended from the ceiling. GIRLS' ENGLISH CLUB Girls' English Club promotes and stimulates an in- terest in all phases of the English language, emphasiz- ing reading and creative Writing. For a Christmas project, the club decorated the school English rooms. During the year each girl was respon- sible for one of her own creative writings. These were read and criticized at the meetings. They also had several guest speakers, including an author who has written a novel and several magazine articles. First semester officers were Nancy Grosshandler, president, Iudy Plaenert, vice presidentg and Mary Mc- Leod, secretary. Each member is required to complete one project SCIENCE CLUB Test Tube Times is Science Club's project. This year's editor Was Iim Nafziger. The newspaper is the only high school science publication in the state of Wisconsin and is published once a year. The club has guest speakers from the University of Wisconsin science departments. Each member gave a talk on his or her scientihc interests. Iohn Stiehl gave an especially interesting exposition on Sputnik just after the Russian baby moonn had been launched. The club aims to further interest and participation in scientific activities and vocations. The ofhcers were Fritz Kubly, president, Iim Nafziger, vice president, and Mary Kay, secretary. These projects consist of explanations of mathematical theories and the solving of complex math problems. The club, in its second year, has produced several Winners in local and state math contests. Dave Peter- son Was the highest individual scorer in the contest sponsored by Mount Mary College of Milwaukee. Bill Dietrich, Iohn Torphy, and Dave Peterson, in the form of a team, won that contest. Steve Robinson and Iohn Torphy tied for first place in a preliminary con- test, qualifying them for the state contest to be held in Madison. HISTORY CLUB History Club is devoted to the encouragement and stimulation of interest in hist'ory. Members made a study of Russian communism and dis- cussed the idea that perhaps the United States is not getting a true picture of he U.S.S.R. A lobbyist for the Wisconsin Education Association explained the work he does. Oflicers from both the Young Republicans and Young Democrats came and spoke about their activities. The officers for the year were president: Dennis Helsabeck, Dave Quadyg vice-president: Dace Brie- dis, Don Mansong secretary: Margie Ehrensperger, Gail Gilbert. The adviser is Mr. Hable. ART ANGLE This club's purpose is to increase its members' interest in art and to further inform them about work possibilities in this Held. Art Angle meetings are devoted to the presentation and production of art in various forms. Many of the meetings have been spent with members showing slides or telling about experiences they have had. BUSINESS CLUB To provide service to the school and to give its members business experience and information are the major purposes of the business club. Members of this club keep themselves busy typing tests and articles, cutting stencils, and running off copies for teachers and students. At meetings, information is presented on office machines, office procedure, and available types of positions in business.
