H may -aw M..-ff his .sv Administration To the Class of 1957: , Our school philosophy is based upon the ideal of making it possible for an individual to develop the talents which he possesses to their fullest ex- tent. The general statement of the West High educational policy follows: We, the teachers of the West High School, assert our belief in the inherent worth of the indi- vidual and our faith in the eliicacy, of education to develop citizens who are of value to the whole fabric of human society. We believe that the high- est virtue of a citizen is a pervading concept of social responsibility, which can be strengthened by thorough scholarship and understanding, rooted in the experience of the race. We believe further that each individual should be allowed to work out his own intellectual, social, and spiritual destiny within the framework of our democracy. During the past year many of our graduates and many of you have made significant contribu- tions to the life of the school or to the life of the community. We are always gratified when our boys and girls do well. We are glad for them, and at the same time have a feeling that we have had a small part in their successes. It has been a pleasure working with this class for the past three years. I feel that some of you have a great potential for leadership and that others among you have a good potential for eihcient followership. All in all, you have the essentials needed for a fine democracy. Do not coast on your Jars now that you have finished high school, but realize that if is only the commencement-a begin- ning of your life work. Remember that anything worth doing is worth doing well. R. O. Christoffersen Principal
