Athletics QM! Reaezwea One of the busiest organizations this year was the Girl Reserves, which met every Wednesday night at the YWCA. They made sewing kits for servicemen and paid lor the Thanksgiving dinners of Girl Reserves in foreign lands. A Christmas formal, a hay ride, a skating party, and many dances were held. A newspaper called the Reserves Review was published. A Red Cross girl who had been overseas three years and a university man from India gave detailed accounts of their experiences. Nordeen. 4F, which stands for Fin, fur, feathers, and forest, this year spent its meetings watching outdoor movies on canoeing, fishing, and hunting, and listening to speakers talk about trips to the North. Preceding the hunting season, Mr. Frank Mazanet talked on safety. Mr. Iacobson showed pictures of trout fishing on the Brule River. For second semester Dick Mathison was re-elected presi- dent, with Bill Quillen acting as vice-president and Iim Iardine and Ray Hillis as co-secretaries. This board, listing the members of both teams participating, was bought and maintained by our Hi-Y Club. They also prepared the schedules for both the football and basketball seasons. In addition to these two accomplishments the I-Ii-Y has given its yearly contribution to a scholarship fund. This money was collected from the dances held during the year. Besides vari- ous hikes, intramurals, and other activities, it spon-r sor-cd the allfcity volleyball tournament with Ianesville as the out-of-city guest team. The highlight of the year was the Variety Show which featured the movie, His Girl Friday , with Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell and Five added attractions of G.A.A. talent. The juniors proved themselves the best team and were hailed as the winner. Volley- ball, basketball, and softball produced large turnouts. The number of points needed to win a letter was reduced from 1,200 to 1,000 points, so that girls enter- ing the school as juniors and seniors might have a better chance to win their HM .
