The driver education student's first experience kept nerves taut, but as he cruised down the road, he noticed people looking at the sign on the side of the car that read Driving Students . Luckily most of the other drivers were aware that the sign meant approaching danger. When a student had completed the course he was ready to cope with the hazards on today's highways. 25

Students find D.E. shop a convenient place to buy sup- plies and other school necessities. To the Distributive Education student, D.E. gives the opportunity to have financial inde- pendence, credits in high school, social con- tact, business opportunity, and experience in futurejobsf' Distributive Education's advisor and teacher, Mrs. Fendley, taught the students how to apply tor, and meet the requirements of many differ- ent types of jobs. Most students left school each day at 12:30 to go to their training stations after having taken their required subjects in the morning. D.E. was indeed a lifesaver to those who want experi- ence in job training or who do not plan to attend college. 27
