DEDICATION To cr gracious teacher, whose abilities have inspired us, whose friendship has blessed us, whose instruction has captivated us . . . to a teacher of knowledge and fidelity, we the i963 Westerner Staff, dedicate this annual, hoping that it may express and verify our admiration for her service and sincerity. She illustrates the post, transporting our attention far away to a realm of vivid dreams, that teach us that the meaning of great literature is the significance of great ideas. By causing the past to be less remote, she causes the present to be less obscure, And if we envision the Three Weird Sisters some dingy evening, we can say, Here are the witches l read about in Macbeth. But we know who taught us the why's and therefore's and who fathomed those unruly phantoms. interest is her direction and our ambush. As she read Burns one day this year, we bee came entangled in the marching words and enchanted by the witty meaning. When she reads, her audience hears a vision. Her own wit is wonderful. How is it possible to thank a teacher, who has merged grammar, friendship, English, Literature, and rewarding insight into one course? May this, the i963 Westerner, be merely a token of our gratitude to you, Mrs. Hooper, for your time, your patience, your work, and your great precision. 5
