Playing in the always tough Class A league, our team was forced to face teams of greater numbers and physical size. Coupled with this was the harsh reality of injuries to various key players among them Co-Capt. and potential A11-Stater Chris Dicomitis who was forced to miss most of the season with a serious knee injury. Also leading our team despite being injured for half the season was our other Co-Capt. Rob Stewart. Rob’s long passes to Jeff Robbins were feared by every team in our league and for very good reason. Of all the qualities that must be possessed by a successful football team those of pride and desire are certainly the most cherished and respected of all. This year's team, despite being subjected to unusually bad fortune, always showed their pride and desire, win or lose. L TO R: 1ST ROW-R. Horoho, A. Carpethos, W. Townson, G. TRottier, M. Capuano, D. Throughout the season many players displayed outstanding qualities. John Ribeiro holds the three year varsity school record of 46 goals. John also made All-Division 1st team along with John Pereira receiving honorable mention. Members of All-Valley were John Ribeiro making 1st team; Joe Rocha, John Pereira, Joe Soares, Paulo DaSilva, and Rodiego Gonzalez all making 2nd team along with Joao Vicente and Bob Ricci receiving honorable mention. Along the way, they won the Cumberland-Lincoln Boy's Club Tournament, crushed Barrington in an upset, and nearly beat Middletown before losing in the fourth quarter. The team had no one outstanding player, but was characterized by superb team play. The scoring attack was well balanced among the five starters, Steve Turcotte, Steve Nisbet, Charlie Shelton, Wayne Dalesio, and Steve Demers. The team was also very deep in talent, with many good players ready to back up the starters. The Army. They've come, over 275,000 strong, for things they may not have found anywhere else. Some came for the job training. Where else can you get your choice of so many good jobs? Some, for the chance to travel. Where else can you get to go almost anywhere in the world? Some came for the personal challenge. Where else can you get as much responsibility right out of high school? Some, for education. Where else can you get such a good head start on college? (With up to 75% of your tuition paid for while you're in the Army.) Some came for the financial rewards. Where else can you get a starting salary of $374 a month (before deductions) and a raise to $417 in just six months? (Plus free meals, housing, medical and dental care, a 30-day paid vacation every year, and low cost transportation to help you enjoy it.) And some came for a different kind of reward.
