westerday west senior high school pawtucket, r. i. to drift, to wander through life, never realizing each moment’s every implication, is to veil existence with life’s illusion, to dwarf one’s being, deny one’s life. the man is less for it. the past enchants, captures, and entrances. it is what we are; we become what it was. yesterday’s memories it unearths. they sweeten and gather mystery with age, they ferment in the imagination, become more than they were, transformed into what was hoped they would be. as such they take over our lives. and yet, something of the former needs be retained: an innocence put away in childhood but never totally forgotten, deeply embedded within the individual, buried in layers of days, yet somehow perfectly understood, leaves its mark. the longing of a free spirit. but a higher quality forges life, a sense that all time converges on the moment, not to obscure it, but to give it significance. the present the future’s past, the past’s future, to it belongs all. to it we owe all. for true generosity toward the future lies in giving all to the present. four five seven c I a s s o d e linda watkinson we’ve added now another step upon our ladder of success; a ladder built of strength and love and bits of happiness. although through school we often found our ways were sometimes parted; our search to find ourselves in life has only just now started. in days at west we often felt our ties were so secure; but now we venture forth to find a new life to explore. fortune, promise and success are what this life can hold; it’s up to us to do the rest to make our goals unfold. we stand here now for one last time, and think of mem’ries from the past; we hope the bonds of love and help we’ve gained from west will last. nine friends are mirrors of the soul: look and see in them all that is needed but lacking. they fulfill and magnify all that is good in one another, for they care for one another. their impact on each other is permanent though their lives are not. they remain forever friends. in memoriam ten eleven matthew bozek principal i want to extend my sincere congratulations to the class of 1972. you have completed another phase of life with your graduation, some of you will continue your education and others will go into the arena of work, no matter what course you are taking, the faculty and the administration of west wish you well. i sincerely hope that your life has been improved by your stay at west, during your three years you have seen changes take place at west, you have, through your representatives, been involved in these changes, some examples of these changes are: the dress code has been eliminated, a new exam policy incorporated, an elective program of studies developed, a curriculum review committee installed, new courses have been developed and a general improvement has taken place. i am extremely pleased with this year’s graduates, they have shown interest in their school and in the world community, they have been positive in their actions, trying hard to get all the facts before they would lend their names to any plans for change, it is this type of responsibility and action
