As the Class of 1970 prepares for Graduation, it signalizes the end of three years of preparation for the beginning of a new phase of your lives, and the end of a three-year span during which you practically decided what your future is to be. The beginning and the end are crystalized by the Graduation Exercises, and you are either very happy with the results of your efforts, or disappointed because you failed to take full advantage of your opportunities. Therefore, Graduation night is a night of gladness, or a night of sadness, and. we of the Faculty and Administration desperately wish that it could be the former for all the students in the class. Looking back over your three-year career here at West, you are probably wishing that you could live them over again. You will dwell on all the good things that happened to you, and forget about some of the unpleasant things. By and large, most of you will feel a twinge of nostalgia, and regret that this part of your career had to end sometime. A few will be glad that it is over so that they can get on with the important business of carving out a future career. None, however, will refuse to admit that West has been an important factor in your lives, and pledge their loyalty to the school and its Faculty which shared those three years with you. We of the Faculty and Administration will continue to watch your future activities, and devoutly wish that success will crown your efforts to make us all proud of you, no matter which path you choose. We shall stand ready to help you in any way, and we hope that all of you reach your desired goal and lead happy and fruitful lives. Dominus vobiscum. seventeen

I want to extend my congratulations to Ihe Class of 1970. During their three years at West they demonstrated their loyalty, patience and intelligence by their actions. T iis class has been subjected to many outside pressures which provoked demonstrations, vandalism and bodily injuries in many of the high schools throughout the state and nation. During these impatient times your class has demonstrated that change can be accomplished in an orderly exchange of ideas through mutual agreement with faculty and administration. West has offered to you the education and the background necessary to follow your chosen goals. Only you and your conscience can judge whether you took full advantage of what was offered. If you did, then success in your chosen field becomes probable, if not, we have failed. Your generation shows great interest in the problems of society. Many of you have demonstrated your sorrow and concern in your writings and comments. These goals and ideals are fine and each graduating class desires to make their contribution to society. I sincerely hope that you can realize your goals through intelligent and peaceful efforts. In conclusion, I feel that West has contributed toward the fulfillment of your goals. The policy of our school is to educate each individual to his fullest capacity, so that he or she may lead a happy and full life. If you have attained this, along with the ability to make correct decisions, respect for others and their property, then we feel that you have taken another step on that ladder to becoming a productive and useful citizen in this great Republic of ours.
