Published By The Senior Class Pawtucket West Senior High School 1955 p r • i M n e c $ I s p a a 9 I e Dear Class of 1955, You are the fifteenth class to be graduated from West Senior High School. Most of you started your formal edu- cation at the heighth of World War II. You end your sec- ondary education in an era of uneasy peace. Since you began your schooling, the world has seen the development of tremendous forces for destruction in thermo- nuclear inventions. We hope your lifetime will see these forces harnessed for the good of all mankind. There are hard tests and challenges awaiting your genera- tion. I know that you will meet both your personal tests and the challenges of your times with courage and faith. The faculty and I extend to all of you a sincere wish for a happy and successful life. CHARLES E. SHEA Principal In the heart of the class of 1955 there is a special place reserved for Mr. Thomas J. Hunt, Jr. He has spent count- less hours working as our classhook advisor. As a teacher in the English Department, Mr. Hunt has aided us greatly. His devotedness and likable personality have also endeared him to us. Thus, it is with sincere appreciation and heartfelt thanks that we, the class of 1955, dedicate this book to Mr. Thomas J. Hunt, Jr. Of fi c e BRIAN HANDRIGAN The President of our class for two years is a well-liked figure here at West. Brian also did a creditable job as a member of our football team. For all that he has done, the class of ’55 says thanks. GRACE WYLLIE rs “Good things come in small packages” is a saying quite applicable to our Vice President. Grace is a bundle of energy and popular with everyone. For all that she has done, the class of ’55 says thanks. JANICE WHITELEY Aside from her duties as Secretary of the class, “Jez” has been our Head Twirler. At all the football games you could see her strut. Now, for all that she has done, the class of ’55 says thanks. f BRUCE MARRAN His quiet manner has not stopped Bob from ful- filling quite capably his duties as Treasurer. Bob also played basketball for awhile. For all that he has done, the class of ’55 says thanks. Class of ’ Frances Anna Adamowicz “Fran . . . Now the time has passed away; The tide is at its height. Dear God with Thy most holy aid, Our path is clear and bright. Our battles in the years to come. The tensions, cares, and fears Thy guiding light will overcome; In these, our future years. As Drops of water make the seas; The sands make up the earth. For gems of knowledge gathered here. Success shall crown their worth. Kind words for deeds approved by Thee, Have been our wage, we say. Make now the course as clear ahead. On this Commencement Day! —CAROL HOPE HOLGATE ’55 CLASS WILL We, the acquiescent, competent, dependable (notably in the case of homework as- signments) and exceptionally brilliant (in the minds of all excepting those of our faculty), class of nineteen hundred and fifty-five, as members of West Senior High School in the city of Pawtucket (including Fairlawn) situated in Little Rhody, being of sound (?) mind and body, do hereby make (or attempt), publish, and declare this document to be our iast (and actually, our first) will and testament. first—To Mr. Shea, our beloved and highly respected principal: 1. We leave!!! Second—To Miss McKitchen, our most gracious and understanding Dean: 1. A one hundred per cent enrollment in the honor society. 2. More parents at parents’ night. 3. A watering can for her plants. Third—To Miss Kelly, our most helpful and altruistic advisor: 1. A lily pond all her own, to raise as many frogs as she wants. 2. A class half as brilliant as we to advise. Fourth—To the Boys’ Athletic Department: 1. Water wings for the Swim Team. 2. An ample supply of deodorant for the Track Team. Fifth—To the Girls’ Athletic Department: 1. A precision drill team, with the quarter wheels right. 2. A three minute supply of 02 to allow people to “bob” without turning blue. 3. A recording of “Reach, swing forward, swing back, lift!,” complete with hired “victim.” Sixth—To our patient and aspiring faculty: 1. Pax Vobiscum. Seventh—To the Cafeteria: 1. A new clam for the chowder. 2. A cow that gives coffee milk at third lunch. 3. Dick Tracy to find the butter in the sandwiches. 4. Plastic milk bottles that bounce when dropped. 5. A recording of “Happy Birthday.” Eighth—To our diligent Yearbook Staff: 1. A more democratic means of selecting the Classbook Board of nineteen hundred and fifty-six. 2. An advisor with more patience than the present germ—oops—“gem!” Ninth—To the Girls’ Choral Group: 1. Risers with a “lift.” Tenth—To the Class of “56”: 1. Dynamite—the only means of arousing the dormant school spirit. 2. Class meeting twice a week (principal, please note). 3. The sophistication and superiority that alone typifies a Senior. We hereby appoint the Class of 1956 to be the Executors of this, our last will and testament. In witness thereof we have subscribed our names on this first day of April, in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and fifty-five. Witnessed by: Signed by: Constance Moreau Carol Hulcup Rosemarie Najjar Grace Wyllie Class Attorneys WE ARE HAPPY TO EXTEND TO WESTERDAYS OUR REALLY SINCERE GOOD WISHES ON THEIR PUBLICATION OF THE WEST HIGH CLASS BOOK.
