Salesrnanship and Distributive Education students operated the school bookstore and learned techniques of merchandising and dis- play while they provided a school service. They also planned and executed the designs in the display window at the intersection of E and K. Office Education and Distributive Education people were required to work at outside jobs in order to earn the additional credit offered. Large enrollments in the typevvriting and shorthand classes indicated that West is doing its share in providing office workers for the needs ofthe community. The Food Service classes served refreshments at the faculty meetings and at a journalism meeting held during the teachers meetings. During Christmas week, they held a foods bazaar. Both boys and girls learned the fundamen- tals of baking and preparing a meal in their foods classes. The Clothing Service girls made clothes at a profit for other people: they also made children's clothes for a leper colony in Africa. Christmas gifts made by the Clothing Service class were ordered and sold. The students in the foods and clothing serv- ice classes were required to have jobs in order to get three hours of credit. ln an effort to earn money for their annual trip, girls in the Clothing Service Class make and sell such things as the formal worn by a mannikin as they pre- parea display window.
