faculty many find, pursue non-pedagogic interests Club activities are always supervised by a faculty member, and the parties and money- raising projects are always attended by many. After-school meetings are scheduled and they discuss future plans and events, make budget requests, and obtain needed information about policies and upcomingfunctions. Being human -in spite of rumors to the contrary - each teacher has a home life and hobbies and interests of his own. Some en- gage in after-hours work at clothing stores, service stations, barber shops, or even in the buying and selling of used cars and airplanes. Just-for-fun hobbies include travel, refinish- ing furniture, collecting antiques, and sewing. Most teachers support families and main- tain homes, so they, too, look forward to hurrying home after school to handle the usual household routine, cook dinner, or make some necessary repairs. Many have children enrolled in other schools, so they are expected to attend meetings and functions of those schools as well as those at West. In order to keep teaching certificates valid and to upgrade teaching skills, teachers are required to obtain more college credits within a specified time. Some travel to other towns for Saturday or evening classes, and others ta ke advantage of local offerings. All in all, faculty members find theirtime well taken up by a variety of activities. The Gabrielsons moved into a new home and Mrs. Shirley Gabrielson persuaded journalism students Diane Pledger, Paula Hendrix, Jeanne Heatherly, and Jack Garlach to as- sist with the initial polishing. Department coordinators Jimmie McQueen, Lorene Gur- ley, Donald Filby, George Hudson, and Evelyn Thompson ponder a point with Dr. Edwin Friesen at one of their late sessions.
