,wwf x M -. f-. .. In the moments before school D-Corridor is the gathering place for most of the students who have arrived. building comes alive, shelters all activities Just as each year has a pattern, so is there a pattern for each day. The day begins early as the custodians and engineers prepare for the arrival of students, some of whom arrive hours before the tardy bell. The pattern of the day naturally includes classes. The hours and minutes spent outside the classroom are the ones that may be longer remembered than those spent listening to lec- tures and writing assignments, however. No doubt the mere mention of a cafeteria brings back memories - of the eternal lines, Diane Chipman, Greg Campbell, and Shirley Tharp pre- pare to leave after school has been dismissed. perhaps of the new snack line, and certainly of the senior table, the jokes and gossip that passed along there, and the food that was consumed during all the lunch hours. And then there were the halls. Students and teachers literally placed their lives on the line when they attempted to hurry through the crowded corridors. Upperclass boys took it upon themselves to hold up the outer wall in D-corridor each morning. There were favorite gathering places for girl watching or boy watching, for gossip, and for last-minute good- byes. There were always those few, of course, who went to class to study, to the library, or to one of the many before-school meetings or practices. Those same halls were quickly emptied when the dismissal bell sounded. Some stopped to buy candy: others made last-min- ute pleas with teachers to accept late assign- ments. Some hurried on to after-school jobs. For a few, school went on. Athletes went out for practice. Sometimes, in inclement weath- er, they practiced running in the halls, but this time it's legal! Candidates and Pep Club girls utilized the minutes of calm to put up posters and banners, and then to take them down again. Somehow, the pattern never seems to end. The lights burn far into the night as rehears- als, preparations, and maintenance go on and on and on and on.

During assemblies the Security Guard checks the halls for gyppers. Gary Scharnhorst is sworn in as senior class president duringtheinstallation assembly. The spotlight shines on an empty stage before a perform- ance begins. Those who attend second assembly try to find something to do besides study. Teachers standing in back of the auditorium maintain order in assemblies.

Cross Country team members Bill Bess and Gary Love show their enjoyment of the sport as they run in the halls during bad weather. Helping with the victory banner before the East game are Romi Jessup, Dana Jenkins, and Connie Hukle. Sophomores Greg Lippincott and Len Thomas utilize the new snack line. Enjoying the privileges of the senior table are Debbie Sod- erberg, Sandy Carson, DeLee Droll, Randy Higgins, and Joyce lndermill.
