elections voters submit to campaigns, select leaders Diane Chipman surveys her brother's election poster for the Student Council elections. l Plans for running for class offices must be made long before the actual elections. Hope- ful candidates must submit petitions signed by classmates before they can begin cam- paigns. Voting, speeches, and varied approaches to campaigning were utilized in the selection of class leaders for the year. Each class attended an assembly to listen to the speakers tell of their qualifications and appeal to class mem- bers for their votes. Speakers who were candi- dates for major offices were each allowed two minutes speaking time. Representatives were given only fifteen seconds to appeal for votes. The actual voting took place in the foyer during study halls and lunch periods. Booths were set up early in the morning and Student Council members checked voters and distrib- uted ballots. There were disappointments for some, and congratulations and installation for the cho- sen few as the winners were pledged to do their best for their classes. Lyle Brecheisen and Gary Scharnhorst join hands in con- gratulations after being announced winners of senior class offices. in vw!! K
