Granny Kathleen Kirk- bright watches with tearful anticipation as her poor daughter, played by Aurella Hurysz, pleads with the villain: jim Ballard. This is a scene from the one-act play, 'The Widow s Plight.' P.S. It was a melodrama! 20 1'2I.I'1'12l . . . As the time draws near for a production in dramatics, the entire school's interest is focused on the coming event. Mr. Rawley T. Farnsworth directs all plays. HARVEY, LET ME STRAIGHTEN YOUR TIEI' . . . Penny Fank- houser and Carol Peebles as Veta Louise Simmons and Myrtle Mae Simmons wonderg 'Is it him or is it me? As Elwood straightens Harvey's crooIced'tie, Mrs. Chau- venet, played by Marilyn Snod- grass, stands by to view the whole thing as an utterly im- possible situation. 'DESPAIR NOT, DEAR CHILD' . . . 'The villain will soon be out of our lives foreverl' Kath- leen Kirkbright puts forth an effort to comfort the poor child of the widow, as acted by Kathy Hurst. '

Trail King and Queen- 1958 Gary Martin and jean Frazier, King and Queen of the 1958 TRAIL, were chosen on the basis of outstanding personality traits, fine leadership qualities, and contributions they have made to the school during their three years at West. jean has been a member of Student Council all three years, and this year she served as Student Council President. She has also been active in Bible Club, Pep Club, Future Teacher's Club, Intra- City Council, Choir, and Westerners. At the end of her junior year she was West's Girl's State Rep- resentative. Aside from her many activities, Queen jean also finds time to keep an Honor Roll grade average. King Gary Martin has been kept busy during his high school days, too. He went to Boy's State as a West Representative, and is a member of Stu- dent Council as Chairman of the Safety Committee. An active participant in sports, he has been on the baseball, football, and basketball teams. He has been a member of the WEST WORD and TRAIL staffs, and has kept a high scholastic average. 9.1-5 Y 1
