Dedication During the years when West High was a series of blueprints and contractors' materials, one man was studying those blueprints and materials with the interest, knowledge and understanding gleaned from along career of working with youth, their educational needs and problems in a chang- ing world. When the first student was enrolled and the first teacher hired, he was there with wise counsel and guidance. He is here today, and it is to him, Dr. Floyd Farmer, our beloved Principal and friend, we dedicate this book. For his ability to put us straight in times of crisis, for his helping hand when we needed help, but most of all, for his ever ready smile of friendly encouragement, we thank him. -41

Foreword West High is young. Her shining hallways, her unscarred desks and equipment deny the fact that more than 5,000 students have passed in het halls and byways and paused to learn. In four short years, west High has grown from an anonymous pile of stone and tile into a living, vibrant institution of learning with high ideals and price- less traditions. Her way of life has been molded with infinite care and knowledge to adjust to the varied edu- cational needs and powerful urge to succeed of each of her students. It is this adjustment that we call the West Way. In this book we shall attempt to show what each department, each activity, and all members of the school personnel are contributing to this new and better way of life and learning.
