Text from Pages 1 - 238 of the 1926 volume:

HE class of January 1926 present to you the account of another half year in the his- tory of our Alma Mater. May this hook serve as a mirror to reflect the soft glow- ing light of memory on each delightful companionship or enjoyable incident herein chronicled. • tVf WEST HIGH SCHOOL ANNUAL 1926 « 4 have here only made a nosegay of culled Ilowers, and have brought nothing of my own but the thread that ties them together. —MONTAIGNE. . a N Km xm i vt ■ 14 A Parting Thought Our parting day approaches near. Dear West High School oj ours, We leave your halls, with memories dear. The world above us towers. We see before us golden dated, A path of life to climb. And you've in each oj us imbued Your spirit, strong, sublime. We know the path is hard and long. The goal a changing mist, But you it ill. with this spirit strong. Our halting steps assist. We than I: you. Alma Mater fair, And those to a horn we owe The knowledge that we'll try to share As down life's path we go. Oh. school we lore, with spirit free. The juture now predicts An everlasting loyalty From Janus 926. —Charles E. Siuakt. —5 1 - Advisers to the Class January IV2() Mil. C. 59 - WWW History of the Class of January 1926 last we have come to the end of our Rainbow, and find, not the Put of Cold, hut that we are Seniors. For four years we have trodden the paths that lead to the mighty portals of our dear old West High. We have wandered through her spacious halls, gazed at her wonderful pieces of art. and are now ready to join the ever increasing line of old grads. But what has happened during these four long years that has held our in- terest so as to make these years slip by? First. Miss Cook's frosli final English class decided to do the extraordinary and publish an extra-ordinary paper under thr title of “The Frosh Final. It was an exceptional piece of work being an unique way to introduce a class to the school, for this was our introduction. It was entirely successful and an inspiration for the future to do bigger things. Second. Our first social function took place in the form of a masquerade party held on Hallowe’en Night. It was a gay affair, bringing out one of the Three Musketeers, a Sheik and numerous other characters. Last, lmt not least, a red haired Puritan. Third. Our next big social event was the Junior Dance. This was held in the school corridors which were gavlv decorated with orange and black bunting and with the numerous balloons scattered here and there gave it the appearance of a Carnival. Nimble feet kept time to the melodious music sent forth by the “Midnight Serenadcrs. ' Fourth. Next came the first appearance of our dramati ally inclined. This was at the presentation of the Junior Play entitled. “Where Julia Rules. a sketch portraying the power of the modern over the previous generation. All the feminine roles were portrayed by the June ’26 girls, while the boys ol the Jan. 26 claimed the masculine parts. The play was a brilliant piece of dramatic talent and was well supported 1 tin student body. Fifth. I pon our return to our Alma Mater this fall we found her redecorated in a very attractive coloi scheme ;md the marred and lame statues restored to their former fine physique and good health. All this gave us new spirit and we are now putting unrestrained effort in our newest project, our Senior Play entitled “The Piper,” a very difficult piece of work and what we hope to he a very successful one. Now we are ready to go on to higher work, taking with u some of Wes! High s envied athletes, orators and journalists. We leave dear old West High with never failing memories of her and with sincere hopes for her future suc- cess in whatever she attempts. —William Chase. 60 ) iGast Will attb arstamrat tll£ flttfili of January 1926. of ihc city of Rochester in the Countv of Monroe .m l tin State of Ahsentmindedness and Oblivion, being of doubtful mind and memory, do make. publish and declare this our last WILL AND TESTAMENT in manner following: first—I hat all our graduation expenses and unjust debts In paid. It costs three times as much to publish a year book as it is sold for. The other two-thirds must be covered by advertising. We urge you to patronize these concerns before con- tributing to the support of others who have not shown this spirit of cooperation.
