Zi Varsity Hockey lVith a large number of last year's players and a good backing of new-comers the girls' hockey team bid fair for an excellent season. Nine of last year's letter girls were available. However, games could be scheduled with only two schools, Central and East, because of some opposition to girls' interscholastic athletics. But these two games proved to be so closely matched that they made the hockey season, however short, very worth while. The first, against Central, showed greatly improved playing over that displayed in practice. The ball hovered about Central's goal nearly the whole game. Central's clever defense trick and several very fast players in the forward line helped to keep the game a fast one to the end. The lfast game was expected to be a very hard one, but the Cowbelles found themselves not only equal to but even slightly superior to the hard-hitting East team. Excellent pass work and a strong back field were mainly responsible fur this. Practices were held at Perkins XVoods, and games. at the reservoir field opposite Sei- berling School. Reba Cleveland was elected captain and Zelma Conway, assistant captain. They aided not only in choosing the line- up but also in coaching, besides being themselves invaluable members of the team. ..............-,,........., - ...-s. , :-en ,,,,, ef.-T '11 ilu-lj N ., c -.-
