The name was opporrunely applied, for in +he fall of l9l4 'rhe old Salf Lalce High School was divided info 'rwo insfifuiions-The Wesl' High remaining on +he old sile. and rhe Easf High moving +o a new campus. As bofh schools relained The red and blaclc colors, il was an added advonlage fo differenliafe fhe afhleric reams of 'rhe Two schools, and because of fhe qualifies sug- gesfed by fhe name Panfher, Wes? High chose fha? 'lille for ifs own. The Easf High arhlefic leams drew fheir official niclcname on Ocfober 22, l9l4. And since fha? dale lhe Panlher and Leopard have symbolized rhe friendly rivalry of fhe fwo schools.
