E DE MllCStODCS The Senlor Play for l92l was perhaps one of the greatest undertakings from the SCCUIC and costumlng standpolnt that has ever been attempted at West Hlgh School As the tltle lndlC3tCS thls was a drama p esentlng the three ages of human progress Wlth ltS conservatlve elements flghtlng the new order The entlre settlng of the play IS lald ln Kenslngton London England and the Rhead famlly IS glven us for three generatlons The flrst act ln l860 Wlth ltS halr cloth furnlture crocheted tldlCS and wax wreaths IS revealed on the ralslng of the curtaln The second act IS twenty flve years later 1885 ln the same room Wlth ohn Rhead the son ln the flrst act as head of the famlly The settlng IS practlcally the same wlth a few addltlons as to furnlture The thlrd act l920 shows us the present ln all ltS fullness The llvlng room has been completely modernlzed and we have a most dellghtful plcture ln these settln s we saw the class of l92I WINIFRED HESQ as Mrs Rhead ave us a charmln plcture of an old lady a fond and dotlng mother whose sweet VOICC was exceedlngly pleasant MARGUERITE FULTON as Gertrude Rhead was the Very up to date daughter who qulte shocks her mother Wlth her progresslve ldC3S of keep lhg household accounts and shopplng wlthout a chaperone Her subsequent career as an emhlttered woman and acldy old mald was very remarkably done RUTH YOUNG as Rose Slbley was a lovely young glrl who grew before our eyes lnto the most adorable old lady Her sympathetlc lnterpretatlon of the role was exceptlonal MYLES ROBINSON as ohn Rhead surely made the character of thls Splendld man seem real to us the SCYIOUS and dlgnlfled way he read the IIHCS and the touches of humor he lnlected were a real treat LLOYD WALTON as Samuel Slbley the conservatlve and hard headed Engllshman roused our sympathy as well as our dlsapproval whlch was the real test of hls actlng GERTRUDE LARRICK as Emlly Rhead was the typlcal spolled darllng who later developed lnto a very lovely woman ROBERT BROADFOOT as Arthur Preece qulte surprlsed and dellghted us wlth hls ease and careful dlctlon and surpassed hlmself ln artlstlc love maklng LORENE BROWNING as Nancy Slbley the young and buxom wlfe of an old man was dCllClOUS and gave evldence of real merlt DONALD CALHOUN as Ned Pym the dandy of the perlod was very much at home ln thls part Durlng rehearsals he kept us laughlng but the nlght of the play truly dellghted us wlth ablllty and ease ROMA DAY as Murlel Fym made us see the modern glrl ln all her glory and we feel the final act was upheld by her talent RALPH WITHEKSPOON as Rlchard Slbley was a rather lnartlculate lover but he made up for thlS by lool-:mg hls part REGINALD DlEDRlCH as Lord Monkhurst was a scream HIS accent hls walk hlS monocle were all ln keeplng Wlth hls character BAYARD TEMPLE as Thompson the famlly butler ln the flrst and second acts was very dlgnlfled and solemn as a true butler should be HENRY HARRISON as Webster the butler ln the thlrd act made hls short appearance very telllng and got hlS llnes over very well 29 Y . , . . 1 - 1 1 1 x - 1 1 1 , . - , , , J , 1 . - . , - 1 1 1 2 Z 0' U Y ' 1 cf : 1 , 1 ' 1 1 ' ' , J , 1 . 1 1 ' , 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 , , . 1 1 1 1 1 - 1 1 1 . 11 . 11 . 1 x - 11 11 . 1 1 - 1 1 1 - 1 - 1 1 1 - A 1 1 1
