Fabulous September 10, 1976 In the neighborhood of twenty eight and Hennepin, on the night of September tenth, a familiar but new sound was heard echoing from West High School. In need of a break after only two days of school, students gathered for the Cheerleader’s Dance. Laughter of old students and new. greetings and screams of surprise marked the first of the year. The Cheerleader’s super spirit rubbed off on all the students as they “bopped, bumped and hustled far off into the night. 19

Yet everyone knew it was truly an Autumn Adventure. When the 1976 Queen Cheryl Oliver crowned now reigning Martha Schwob, it was like a burst of Fall color coming from the leaves and illuminating all of West. Thrill, emotions, and excitment filled the school, as it was harvest time for spirit and an ovation of the students.
