with a skip, and a jump One of the courses everyone had to take which no one wanted to was Physical Education. But after taking it students were usually glad that they had. This was caused by the West High Phy-Ed Department, not offering just routine old calisthenics, not at West! We had a wide variety of courses offered: from Archery to Field Hockey. From Fencing to Trampoline. The department staff gave all they had teaching Phy-Ed, Health and coaching. The Health Department was also varied in their course offerings ranging from Mental Health to Sex Education. TOP left to right: Mr. Charles Voss, Dept. Ch. BOTTOM: Mrs. Patricia Kairis, Miss Joanne Hulet.

pre-scientists at work Many students chose to partake in one of the science courses offered at West this year. Our scientists of tomorrow spent their time inspecting blood under microscopes, dissecting sharks, and studying the effectiveness of acupuncture. They'll never forget the early morning surprise of take out a sheet of paper please! Don't be astounded if at a near future day you read about the capture of the North Pole's 'Big Foot.' This just may be a direct result from the study of the abominable snowman, which was another objective of the department. TOP left to right: Mr. Raymond Hovey. abroad .. . anyone?? All students at West were required to take English but many chose to broaden their knowledge by taking a foreign language. These students not only learned to speak the language. They also learned about the cultures of the countries whose language they chose to study. March highlighted the year for many students who traveled to Germany, France or Spain with the Foreign Language Department. TOP: Mr. Alan Hargreaves. BOTTOM left to right: Mr. Hargreaves and his wife are living proof that Those Germans really know how to live! Mrs. Carol Jennings. Dept. Ch. Mrs. Joan Kusske. NOT PICTURED: Mrs. Susan Morgan. 28
