West Proves City's Spoilers Under head coach Bob Roy, assisted by Chuck Voss, Eric Lindberg, Dave Primrose, and Pio Sartori, the West football team enjoyed a very successful season. Highlights of the year were the five-year scoring record in the 33 to 6 Henry victory and the near upset of city champion. Southwest. Bob Temp was an All-City tackle on the first team and Rollie Ring was All-City halfback on the second team. Quarterback Ron FindorfF was honored as West's most valuable player. Edison's continuous pressure proved fatal for the Cowboys in the year's opening game. Our first victory of the campaign came on a safety on the last play of the Roosevelt contest. Scoring was the big factor in our next two games; West scoring 33 against Henry and none against champion Washburn. A disappointing Homecoming game found West outfighting and outplaying Southwest, but still losing to the champions in our season's heartbreaker. The final home game gave Marshall its heartbreak with West's defense shining in our only shutout of the year. The best played second half of the year closed the schedule for West, however the second half wasn't enough and Central squeezed by the victor. Captains Schwartz and lemke. 28

Rising out of the cellar, Ade Nelson's 1959 cagers showed flashes of brilliance in city competition this year. Led by Captain Art Iverson, the Cowboys proved to be tough opposition. Highlight of the year was the 76 to 39 victory over Edison, setting a new school scoring record. Special mention goes to All-City selection Iverson, who was also the second highest scorer in the city, and to Rocky Mattson who was named honorable mention All-City. The sophomore basketball team, under the direction of Coach Dave Primrose, gave experience to many boys who will be valuable assets to next year's team. BASKETBALL SCORES WE THEY 53 ST.
