Red Cross An organization participating in school, community and international activities is the Junior Red Cross. The organization was under the direction of Miss E. Paulson this year. The hard working members had many projects this year. Among these were filling Red Cross chests built by the woodworking classes. Mr. J. Dunnewald and his students also designed and made over two-hundred bed trays and footstools for hospitals and homes. A checker board made for community institutions was chosen to appeor in a Finnish exhibition. Three other items also won acclaim by appearing at the Brussels World Fair. The school's March fund drive supported these projects. ROW 1: P. Kromer, I. Levine, B. Coombi, C. Rock. B. Voj o. ROW J: M. Galie, C. Kalina. S. Jensen, C Larson, P. Campion, C. Price. ROW 3: J. Entertainment Dance Group Our flashy Dance Group, well known for skill, original choreography and dramatic costumes, presented many popular programs this year. Their numbers ranged from serious to humorous presentations. Under the direction of Carol Savela, with Kathy Finrud as Co-captain, the sixteen regular members and five alternates practiced many hours developing and perfecting their routines. Even then their work was not done, for each girl furnished the material and made her own costume. Their major performances this year have been at football and basketball games and the Sno Day and Homecoming celebrations. Aft r weeks of drills, the Donee Group exhibits its skills for other Minneapolis High Schools.

Our Student Council is the body which represents the students in the school government. Its members and officers are elected by their respective classes on the basis of scholastic record and ability to serve. The Council's duties consist of consulting with the school administration on affairs relative to the student body, helping to solve some of the general behavior problems and sponsoring all-school activities. This year it has organized and run the Homecoming and other celebrations very successfully. The Council has also modified the Teenage Code to better fit the needs of our student body. The Student Council is our first major practice in democratic self-government. Government . . . Scholarship . . . Leadership . . . Character Service Club At every home football game, the Service Club provided a food stand for both schools in competition. They also decorated the hall Christmas trees and sponsored the hockey jamboree. With the money they made from their concessions, they bought many useful items for the athletic teams. The girls in the Service Club certainly have been an asset to West High School. They were aided by Mr. D. Houck who purchased the goodies for them and told them where and how to sell. ROW 1: B.
