NEWGARD Secretary Leaders All It was an exciting day in September, 1947, when 300 fearful, yet hopefu', sophomores invaded West High. They struggled through the maze of room numbers, met new friends, studied new subjects and loved every minute at West. Football season came and went just as did tests and report cards. In the spring West went all out for baseball, winning City and Twin City championships. The fall of 1948 found the class of 50 juniors. What fun to make the sophomores suffer as they hod suffered! West went wild over the Page Cave-naugh Trio at Homecoming. New band uniforms were a reality at last. Leaders in scholarship, sports and music were developing. At last 277 of these were seniors. E. WOLCOTT Salutatorian P. WORRELL Valedictorian All The Way mittee chairmen. The choosing of pictures, rings, pins and announcements were steps toward graduation. Will anyone ever forget the Gay Nineties' Carnival with its handle-bar mustaches and bustles or the dance? Class play try outs were next. Everyone was in suspense wondering if he would get a part. Twenty-eight people gave wonderful performances. Seniors wanted to stay on forever, but time was running out. What a wonderful year! Baccalaureate presented serious thoughts as seniors began their last week at West. Party and picnic sparked the final week and on June 15, 268 nervous seniors reminisced over their three years of high school. Service, scholarship and ability won awards.
