The Intellect retired and was succeeded by an unknown champion in the columning game. . . . Whitosel, Wood-worth, and Hockman carry oil honors in state-wide |Ournahsm contest. ... A score for the Glee Club in obtaining the scores for the operetta “Sweethoaris , but anothor score when oxponso turned the decision to Prisoners of Penzance . . . . The Hi-Y clubs are on the board with a successful season of hall duty, and the Winx widen the advantage with the Y football championship. . . . West takes its place among veterans, broadcasting for the third time. . . . The sports editors of the Weekly get the jump on the entire field announcing their all-city team one week before any other paper, Green and Dudley placing. . . . Alden Grimes, Maxino Benson, Charlotte Westberg and Lewis Enkema win hands down in tho B Senior elections. . . . Liberal opinion is that it tonded to destroy the wide-open game but the oificia) ruling is that it makes it more efficient and of greater value to the team. Some difficulty was encountered in growing familiar with the new rulos but the season has not yet reached its climax. . . . Ruth Chnstoffer and Francei Lang rate tops for maintaining a perfect record for three years. Co-valedictorians ... Don Dahle completes a successful campaign as All Hi-Y President. . .. Guy Corson and Ed Olsen clash racquets as pretenders to the tennis throne. . . . Biggest political issue of the year was the choice of picture studio. ... The sound equipment in ths auditorium gains popular favor with the school. Thanks to the PTA.... The course record was broken on two occasions this season. Once at the dinner welcoming the new principal and again at the banquet for John N. Groer. . .. Bill Evorest must be ranked .. . And the two kids who put the big bang in September. ... The clothing collection collected a first place in city-wide competition. ... The fact that this is the only semi-annual in the Minneapolis high schools is a record of some sort. . . . NOBLE B. SCHOONMAKER For one semester we have observed this man under fire. He has not failed. To make a success, a definite, progressive success within the first months is commendatory of both the school and the man holding the reins. A new era, of which we have experienced but a mere start, has been instituted at West. Democracy . . . licensed liberty . . . diversion . . . education . . . and 8UCCO8S. H. O. JOHNSON A man taking as good a picture as this that is, if you know H. O. Johnson shouldn't be wasting valuable time (and there's an argument there, too) saying exceptionally witty and pithy things to January classes. Not that the pose is natural, nor the expression representative of Johnson geniality. He saves that look for all special occasions, which in the life of a senior adviser grow more numerous year by year. And he's not slow; he just likes to take his time. As a Senior Adviser he deserves a place at the top of the list. MRS. ALICE KEAN Somewhat like the player who came in about the third inning and put the first one over the left field wall. She spotted Mr. Johnson one term of association with the seniors as adviser and proceeded to make up that time. That she has succeeded with the girls as he did with the boys there is no shadow of doubt. And if her picture is not so high, it is the fault of the layout. Her place is there at the top with the other two.
