Baseball '68 Varsity The Varsity Team under the able coaching of Lou Garrimone lost three ex- tra-inning games and dropped five games by a two-run margin. This statistic ex- plains the season. The team played steady ball but failed to get enough of the breaks to produce wins consistently. But the team competed well and was a force to reckon with in the league. The team boasted several outstanding players. Lou Perez played brilliantly at first base and received the Babe Ruth Tro- phy for 1968 by vote of the players. john Lindberg was the team's heaviest hitter and did a fine job in the outfield. Scott lkenber- ry, selected for the All -Metro Team, played excellent ball down the line. All in all, despite the disappointment of too many losses, the team had much to be proud of. Sophomore Sophomores had an up-and-down season even though the team had basic ability and played well together. A lack of se1f-confi- dence, however, took the cutting edge off their game. The team 's outstanding player was Ernie Guerero with Ray Fleer punching out the highest batting average. Other out- standing performers were Doug lkenberry, Phil Hawkins, and Fred Krebs.
