Yuri attended the National Student Council Convention which was held during the summer in San Gabriel, California. Thirty-eight states were represented at the convention. The agenda con- sisted of discussion groups and guest speakers from different parts of the country. Bennie was a boy stater and had the opportunity to learn important procedures necessary for conducting Student Council meetings. 10 -eu-has Q.ve:..e...-,M--W-1 .-,,,,15-0-w---s-'YW-N .W - 'E fills - JS. Fr .xxyj 'T cmacorw BUTTON MILDRED ronsmz JoHN DuPR1EST Seven Chosen as Staters West's Parent'-Teacher Association had the final decision, after personal interviews with the finalists, to determine the students who would be this year's staters. Student names were suggested by the West High faculty. The applicants wishing to participate filled out forms of their qualifications, '- ff' hobbies and, activities. From the application forms sub- mitted, the P.T.A. chose the seven staters for this year. Girl staters went to Colorado Woman's College, boy stat- ers went to Colorado University. Leadership was the main point stressed to the staters. E DONNA FOSTER 1. 'Q f auf.. Q . Stu- dent Council is good training for a democratic society and encourages cooperation between teachers and stu- dents. One of the many interesting and useful projects they participated in was Funspiration, a new type of dance, with games and dancing combined. All the proceeds from this dance went to charity organizations. During the summer, one of the activities attended by members of West's Student Council was Camp Cheley, the National Student Council Camp. Here the students learned leadership among many other things. West Students are Kept Informed of Activities Striving to keep the students at West informed on all activities, while at the same time, producing a high- quality newspaper is the chief g'oal of the students on the Rodeo Staff. Having been trained in the field of Journalism, these students have the skill and ability required for the Rodeo, while they are preparing themselves for a future occupation in the field of Journalism. These students are always busy interviewing teachers and students and collecting all the information that is to go into the future edition. After all information is collected and everything is typed and checked for errors, it is printed and readied for distribution to anxious students. Size, weight, and injuries also hindered the Pokes in league play. One ot the highlights of the season was an eighty-five yard run tor a West touchdown by Richard Salazar. He accomplished this after recovering a North tumble. West failed to score more than six points in any individual game, with the exception of the Lin- coln game when thirteen points were made. Jim Richards and Alvis Headen were co-captains ot the football team. The coaches were very dis- appointed about the team's winless season, but they felt the boys had played their best all season long.
