HILL is the merriest and jolliest principal we have ever known and we'll never forget him. West owes its reputation as the friendliest school in the West to Mr. Hill who goes out of his way to speak to each and every student in his jovial manner and makes each one feel a part of the spirit of VVest. One of the things we have ap- preciated most at West is our long noon recreation periods for which we are indebted to Mr. Hill. He has always met us half-way in any project we have proposed, giving us every opportunity to promote the 8 MR. SAM R. HILL Principal democratic school we have so much enjoyed. The added problems that in- evitably arise in war times have been met by him with courage and re- sourcefulness. He has gained the respect and admiration of every Cowpoke from the Freshmen to the Seniors by his true sportsmanship, his courteous manner to all, his sense of humor, and his personal interest in everybody. May we raise our hand in salute to Mr. Hill, our guide and friend, as we travel ONVVARD.'l

MRS. HILDEGARD S. SWEET Dean of Girls RS. HILDEGARD SWEET, Dean of Girls at West is a true friend of every girl in the school. With her gracious and pleasing personality she has guided us through our times of unhappiness and misfortune and she has aided us in making decisions that will help to make our lives in the world of the future more successful. Mrs. Sweet is not only popular with the girls but she has many admirers among the boys, who think she is a lady of true culture and refinement. We wish to thank you, llflrs. Sweet, for your cooperation and helpfulness in making our four years at West suc- cessful and joyful and we shall always remember you, while we continue On- ward into the future, as a person of fine quality whom we hold in high esteem. MR. WlLFORDf H. WOODY Assistant Principal R. WOODY, our assistant principal, chief radio man, and boys' adviser is a man with a vast amount of stamina and one with many original ideas. He never seems too tired to listen to a hard-luck story, and he is always full of new and useful ideas for the better functioning of an organiza- tion. To his credit goes the fine arrange- ment of our choice of studies program. He is an active member of the finance committee and is sponsor of the Rot-ary Club of VVest. Outside of his regular school activi- ties Mr. VVoody announces the city prep and college football games held at the D. U. Stadium. Mr. VVoody likes to play basketball, golf, and can be seen bowling at his favorite bowling alley in leisure hours. Evidence of his favorite after-meal refresher is the soft, black smoke that comes from those pleasing cigars that hide down deep in his lapel pocket. Mr. VVoody. to you we Westerners want to say, Thanks for your loyal leadership in sending 'Qnward '45'.,'
