B etty Gumma THE cLASS or 1934 The Good Ship 1934 was launched in September, 91930, with a seriousfminded crew and happy, careffree passengers aboard, ready for the great adventure. The first storms encountered were those of the Freshman Seas, Latin and Algef bra. Then followed the calm of the Sophomore Strait with smooth sailing for a year. After this came the strong winds of the Junior Sound, Chemistry and Physics, which brought with them a great many troubles and disasters. As the trip continued. through the open waters of Senior Year, although gales were met again, there was more calm and more opportunity for the passengers to enjoy themselves. Cn September twentieth the day was devoted entirely to deck sports and on November tenth the ship touched at the Worldis Fair, Chicago. I Then, all too soon, came the time for the necessary preparations for the landing of the Good Ship 1934 and the end of this adventurous voyage. The last few months of the trip were full of exciting treats and great events. On February twentyfthird the first class passengers were entertained by those traveling second class and on April twentieth came the Concert aboard ship with some of the most famous enter' tainers participating. May fifth brought with it the gala event of the voyage, the formal Promenade and, following close, on May eighteenth, the grand oldffashioned ball with its diversified array of costumes. The final getftogether on June first preceded the landing with its solemn and tearful farewells. ' Cn June fourth the Good Ship 1934 reached its port with its pasf sengers completing their voyage but ready to set out on another great trip through the Seas of Life. To bear forward the searching light of truth, to lead that others may folf low in the light, to keep burning in their school a high ambition for the enduring values of life, and to serve, these purposes are symbolized in the torch. h LLiiTl'2L' f' f i ORGANIZATIONS 6 ii Li!! . The Cowboys lost several of their games by close margins. Their defeat of East was one of the most thrilling games of the season, with West winning in the last half minute of play. Norman Compton, sophomore center, was the leading scorer of the squad, which consisted mostly of Sophomores and Juniors. West West West West TEAM Bernard Boysen ..,..,... .,...............
