tialsSTOP THE PRESSES!! Warriors make sei The Warriors also traveled to Vet ' s Stadium for the quarter-finals with highly talented Newport Harbor. It was nip and tuck during the first half as the two teams felt each other out for weaknesses. With 1:41 remaining in the half, Vasi drove the Warrior machine in a perfectly drilled 2-minute offense, from their own 20 to 22 yard field goal by Gibson. After the intermission, the Warriors completely dominated the TARS as they drove for three TD ' s and a 24-0 victory. Peterson had two more TD ' s and another 109 yards rushing. This was our big- gest offensive night as we totaled 409 total yards combined rushing and passing. The bubble burst in the Semi-final game as the Warriors dropped a 19-3 decision to the eventual CIF champions. South Hills. West scored on their first drive with a 27 yard field goal by Gibson. Following this 3-0 lead, the Warriors were never to have field position again the entire evening. They were forced to begin drives from their own 10,7,5,3, and 9 yard lines. The Warrior defense was outstanding, but was never forced to play too long. The Huskies attempt to use this triple option play against the Warriors in the Dec. 20 Semi-final game. West was defeated in this heart-breaker 19-3. fc ' . r ;-fS, = ' ' -iF.. Varsity Soccer: Reputation Upheld j ' f ? ' W i This year ' s Warrior soccer team finished a disappointing third in the Bay League. However, finishing third in the strongest league in the C.I.F. gave the Warriors a berth in the C.I.F. playoffs. The first round of play pitted West against Bishop Mont- gomery, the winner of the Ocean League. West clearly demonstrated the strength of our league by defeating Bishop 8-3 in a one- sided game. In the second round we were defeated by a strong Santa Ana squad 3-2 in a very close contest. The teams overall 14-1-7 record earned the Warriors 12th place in the coache ' s C.I.F. ratings. The team was led by senior Mitch Buckley (who led the team in scoring), junior Steve Fred- riksen (team captain), and senior Dave La- ney who led the defense for the Warriors. Varsity Soccer
