STOP THE PRESSES!! Warriors make semi-fi The Warriors began their quest for a CIF championship at La Serna, the Whitmont league champions. Many ques- tions were in the public ' s mind. 1) Could West shake this first game jinx? 2) Were they good enough to be there? The offense drove for a TD late in the first quarter. Ron Schloderer, Glen Peterson and the key passing of Mark Vasi to Pete Carlson were instrumental in the drive. Tim Gibson ' s kick made it 7-0 and in 57 seconds it was 20-0. Peterson intercepted a flat pass and returned it 20 yards for the first of the two quickies. LaSerna ' s very next play was another touchdown as Mike Roquemore intercepted the pass and went on to score. At halftime-Warriors 20, LaSerna-0. La- Serna fought back to a 20-13 defifict, but Vasi directed a drive to the one yard line, consumming 8 minutes. Gearheart and Mills then racked LaSerna ' s QB for a whopping loss. Final score-West-22, LaSerna-13. On Thanksgiving weekend the Warriors traveled to Cam- arillo for their second CIF meeting. The Scorpions were a wishbone team that used a Tenneesee defense which were both new to the Warriors. Neither seemed to bother us as Glen Peterson roared to four TD ' s and senior Ron Schlod- erer carried the ball 24 times for a total of 54 yards net rushing. The Herb Richey designed defense held the high powered offense of Camarillo to 63 offensive yards. Tim Gibson hit his fifth field goal of the year from 32 yards. West emerged the victors boasting a score of West-31 Cammaril- lo-6. Quarterback Mark Vasi (Above) watches with some antici- pation as running back Ron Schloderer gains yardage on this sweep. Schloderer ' s running in this Semi-final game against South Hills wasn ' t enough as the Warriors were finished off 19-3. Glen Peterson (Below), who gained 4 touchdowns against the Cammarillo Scorpions, wasn ' t quite able to get over the goal line in this Semi-final game at Long Beach ' s Veteran Stadium. And so, a super season came to a close, but our memories will linger on. Dave Tressel and Steve Codey (our tackles) both made first team AU-CIF. They, along with Glen Peterson, Cory Hons, Louie Mejia and Tim Gibson made All-South Bay. Our All- Bay Leaguers included Hons, Tressel, Burch, Center, and Peterson on Offense, and Gearheart, Codey, Gardea, Peter- son and Mejia on defense. 56 Playoff Football
