Sophomore, Freshman Warriors Show They Have Talent. Produce Season of Excitement. The Warriors finished third in the league with a 4-3 record. Plagued with injuries, the team fought back with a well-balanced offensive attack. Halfback Bob Hudspeth led the team in the rushing department, passing was the best ever produced on a sophomore level. Dave Weatherman, a very poised and capable quarterback threw at will to four exceptionally good receivers: Mike Franks, Dale Hyashite, John Duncan, and Fred Mitchell. The line, probably one of the biggest ever, was led by Easy Ed Penningtion, Mark Holden, Mike Leonard, Jerry Stablein, and Jack Cambell. Although the Warriors finished third in the Bay League they were constantly in the running for first place. Special thanks should go to Rick Petersen, and Ron Marra for donating there time to aid the coaching staff of John Black and Kurt Davis. Our Frosh football team enjoyed a superb season in which they amassed six wins to go along with just one loss and one tie. While opening up the schedule with a tie against Bishop Montgomery and a loss to Monrovia the team began to yell and soon became a well coordinated unit. The strong competitive desire was clearly evident as our Warriors won their remaining six games highlighted by a 3-0 win over North and the Bay League Championship. The intire Defensive Unit, led by Darryl Rippstein, Ed Torres, Jon Turner and Rick Tiberio, placed unrelenting pres- sure on each opponent. So effective was this group that only three foes were able to score. Offensively the Frosh capitalized on their strong front line and the scoring punch of Tim Roquemore, Kevin McMillan, Dennis Brown, Henry Herron and, of course. Ken Walter Jr. It was Walter ' s strong leg that provided West with wins over North and South, 3-0 and 9-7, respectively. Along with his stellar per- formance as offensive guard and linebacker Walter was chosen Most Valuable Player. Freshman quarterback Ron Zinns (Below), gives the call to Henry Herron on this play against Verbum Dei. The powerful Warriors blitzed past their opponent 27-0. Sophomore Quarterback Dave Weatherman (Above), seems to have a large choice of options on this play. The sophomores had a stormy season, but finished with a 4-3 league record. 50 Sophomore and Freshman Football
