F.B.L.A. Contrary to popular be- lief, the Future Business Leaders of America, more commonly known as the F.B.L.A., is not an or- ganization sponsored by the Mafia. At least, we hope not. But still, the 89 member strong organiza- tion, under the direction of Corina Weingardt, had a most successful year in the many competitions that they entered-most notably is the 20th Annual South Section Conference of Busi- ness, where the West High representatives captured four first place awards, a second, two fourths, and five fifth places. the F.B.L.A. has also had sev- eral large fund raising acti- vities and an end of the year party. Chieftainettes Chieftainettes is well known for the many ser- vices which they provide at various activities at West High. Along with these services Chieftainettes also has sucker sales, parties, and general get-togethers. Though the club was lim- ited somewhat this year by the use of professional help provided by the school, their spirit was felt throughout the year. With the sponsorship of both Mrs. Diane Keenan and Ms. Sarah Lorenz, and the help of President Tina White, these girls did a great job with their effort and devotion. Social Studies Club The Medic Careers Club, spon- sored by Linda Levanas, has been busy donating their time to help various causes. The Children ' s Care Center in Tor- rance received almost 100 toys from the Christmas Toy Drive which the Medic Club spon- sored. In February students attended the Open House at Torrance Memorial Hospital. The tour included not only a tour of the Hospital, but also lectures and information given by medical personnel. In March the Medic Club gave an Easter Party for the children at the Child Care Center. The Medic Club this year has been very busy indeed! SOCIAL STUDIES CLUB-Row 1: Mike Wyler, Joe Brewster, Linda Grosscup, Bobbi Feist, Gary Vanderburg, Judy Sierra. Row 2: Dennis Hosack, Chris Husman, Beverly Bickel, Jill Pierson, Monica Morth, Reed Warren, Ana Echeverria, Randy Bradley, Ms. McNamara, Kris Spooner, Mr. Wooton, Rochelle Feist, Susan Keller, Bill Hart. Medic Club The average, run of the mill student might think of the Social Studies Club as history nuts, spending their lunch hours and weekends discussing the many aspects of the War of 1812... but wait! Ac- tually, the club has planned many activities through- out the year, going to such places as Disneyland, the Movieland Wax Museum, an Amtrack trip to San Diego, and many other rather unusual trips. The club, sponsored by Wil- liam Wooton and Brenda MacNamara, is really one of the few clubs left strictly with the task of getting people involved with others, while at the same time having a great deal of fun. MEDIC CAREERS CLUB-Chris Hudson, Tracy Wane, Jenny Woods, Kathy Vorrick, Rita Hussing, John Bunher, Linda Levanas, Kathy Morgan, Paul Carlson, Corpse-Fred Snorkel- beam. 118 Social Studies Club, Medic Club
