Grapplers 3-2 in League Action The Varsity Wrestlers finished with a season record of 4-13-1. This however was a deceptive figure since they were 3-2 over their Ocean League rivals. The season ' s high point was a 33-27 win over Mira Costa, first time ever at West High. With only three seniors and one junior, the rest of the Varsity squad was young. Over half of them were freshman and sophomores. The team was led by Captain Ed Levenson, a senior, who had a 32-1 record this year. Levenson took first place at the Torrance Christmas Tournament, at the El Camino Invitational, the Fountain Valley Tournament, and was Fourth in C.I.F., Southern Section. Another out- standing wrestler was Iron Man , Gary Almeida, who came out after Christmas due to a leg injury, and also finished lourth in C.I.F. competition Jim Beck, a senior, had a good season and worked his way into the sectional meet of CIF here at West. Junior Dave Hill had a great season with a record of 21-3 for his first full year on the Varsity. For the rest of the team, the season wasn ' t always that bright, but future looks great. With the number of under- classmen on the team, this year was one of conditioning and experience to be used in the coming years for many great seasons. Coach Wyatt is very optimistic about the potential of his team and foresees some great years ahead.
