Injury Jinx Hits Warriors The 1971 football season proved to be very disappointing to both the players and the fans. Our record of 3-6-0 capped a season of handicaps. With only 12 returning lettermen, the Warriors were plagued by injuries. During the South game Gary Almeida, All League Fullback, was injured and out for the season with a blood clot on his thigh. Craig Notch matched Gary ' s injury except the clot was on his arm. A broken finger kept Dave Vint, one of our valuable defensive men, from seeing regular action the rest of the year. Pre-league action started with the Warriors dropping a close, hard fought decision to Long Beach Wilson, 8-0. The North Saxons with superior size and experience dropped West, 13-6. The South Spartans were first victims, falling 20-0 to West. The Warriors next traveled only down the street en route to another loss, 32-13. Starting league action, the Warriors drubbed the Inglewood Sentinels, 35-0. Touchdowns were scored by Jim Miller and John Lavezzari, both scoring two and Dave Adair scored the other TD. On the road again, the Warriors scored three touchdowns, but still lost to Hawthorne, 35-21. In their only day game bussed up the hill to Rolling Hills to be blanked, 34-0. Ron Robison suffered a knee injury which sidelined him for the season. The injury prone Warriors were now down to 23 healthy players. Homecoming was a sucess with a 21-7 victory over Culver City. Steve Mossman, Jeff Ernst, Scott Magnusson, and Pete Ayotte were credited by the coaches with a great defensive effort. West dropped its final game, 21-7 to Mira Costa. 72
