Fencing Club Fencing is a sport in which in- dividual effort is of paramount importance. It helps build co-ordi- nation, strength, grace and timing. During the year the members learn basic moves and complicated ma- neuvers. Competing in fencing tour- naments throughout the South Bay, the fencing club also sponsors two competitions in December and April. The Fencing Club officers are Marc Levine, President; Bill Gel- naw. President Advisor; Reni Kess- ler and Tom Trulove, Co-Vice Presidents; Bob Woods, Secretary; Louis Puffpaff, Treasurer and Torrance Recreation Center, club sponsor. Forensics Through debates and other events the members of the Forensics Club strive to develope effective tech- niques of oral communication. At many speech tournaments through- out the South Bay and Los Angeles area they have proven their efficiency. Drama Club The Drama Club is made up of students who work on productions. Many of the members are not en- rolled in a drama class. Besides going to productions outside of West, the club works on three productions during the year: a comedy, a musical and a drama. The interest of the club varies from acting to technical work. Hiking Club The Hiking Club under the guidance of Mr. LaVoy and Mrs. Keenan attended many exciting excursions this year. This included a trip to Mount Baldy and a hike to Mount Lowe Railway Loop Tour. The Hiking Club is in its second year at West. Chess Club The Chess Club meets once a week after schoc 1 to play chess.
