Lua WEST HIGH SCHOOL presents the 1957 CAT LOG Bremerton Washington ' 1' ,1 1 F Q W gm, , . ' Y u I 1 . 5' . l X I A x . H ' Q I A , 0. W M Q . I . ,iv 5 'Q ., ,Q 'H 5 M X. l Zintatiediila This year the Cat Log class has chosen a part of the verse: I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help, as its theme. West High is faced on the east with the Cascade Range while on the west lie the mag- nificent Olympics. The mountains, maiestically watching over Puget Sound, stand as a symbol to us-a symbol of promise. It was when we were discouraged or disappointed that we would look unto the hills and find the strength and couroge which we needed to continue. As the year draws to a close, we look back with mixed emotions - glod it was so wonderful and sorry it was so short. This is the record of that year - may you enjoy it. Seven returning lettermen, bolstered by sophomores and juniors, make prospects bright for retaining the title. This spring opened on a wet note with weather conditions forcing postponements of many early games. Too, the lack of a suitable playing field has retarded the conditioning of the squad. No turnouts had been held on Roosevelt Field or home games played by May lst. All practice sessions have been held at Washington Field. These factors saw the major portion of the schedule played during the final four weeks of the season. ROW Drake, C. Johnson, Gaddis. MIDDLE McGreagor. BOTTOM ROW-Scott, Clauson. Zachow, Anderson. The squad opened fast with five straight wins over the follow- ing teams: Shelton 3-l, Peninsula TO-4, Olympia 3-O, Central Kitsap 5-l, and Clover Park 8-4. Then followed an extra-inning loss to Sodium of Tacoma and Bainbridge 8-7. The leading pitcher is Mike Donahue with a 5-O record, and the leading hitters Wayne Zachow, Donahue, Bill Demick and Dean John- son. lf the hitting continues to pick up and the weather does not force anymore cancellations, the Wildcats have better than an even chance to win the flag.
