In it we have tried to get a complete picture of one year of school life-games, dances and other activities. For the seniors of 1951 it will be a memory book: for this year's sophomores, it will be the beginning of a record of their school career. lf you look at this annual several years from now and can remember old friends and events, this staff will have done its job well. For our theme this year, we have chosen one of a combined NavyfNavy Yard nature. Without the Navy Yard, Bremerton would not be what it is today. Through the use of a few pictures and sketches we have tried to bring you a small part of the Navy Yard. We wish to thank Hudson's Studio for being so helpful in supplying us with pictures, and also to thank Mr. LaDuke of the Bremerton Printing Company, who was so patient in waiting for us to meet our deadlines. 1 li, lwol RALPH CULVER 1899f195'1 Dedication On February 8, 1951, Bremerton High School lost one of its most beloved teachers, Mr. Ralph Culver. Though he had not taught at Bremerton since last fall because of illness, we shall always think of him as ours. Mr. Culver was one of the first instructors in the state to introduce conservation of natural resources as a subject in high schools. After he began classes in this worthwhile project, many other schools followed his ex' ample. In addition to his many school activities, Mr. Culver participated in many worthy outside activities. We sincerely dedicate this 1951 Annual to Mr. Ralph Culver, whose memory will always live in the hearts of all his fellow faculty members and the many students with whom he associated. fpage three A FACULTY . The spirit of the student hody has heen cosiderahly improved. Vsforking closely with the Executive Board. Student Council, and students is a pleasure. Faiin N. GRAHAM, Principal DXVIUHT SCH EYFR Another year is rapidly concluding. An important one in the grim and learl-ul juncture of history. Tremendous events have occurred: events which have had everlasting impacts on all of us. Regardless of the instability and insecurity of our future, mu' students and faculty have had a grand year. The hest of luck to the graduating seniors. To those returning, we are looking forward to an even more successful year in 1951-52. Here Comes Charley, a comedy in three acts was presented by the senior class on January 19th and 20th at C-oontz Auditorium. The plot revolves around a young businessman, Larry Elliott fGordon Wzilgrenj, who agrees to adopt Little Charley thinking that Charley is a small boy. Larry's college chum, Ted Hartley, fjack Robertsj backs him up as he breaks the news to his Aunt Fanny fFaith Mawsonj. Aunt Fanny in turn tells Larry's spoiled and snobbish nance, Vivian SmythefKersey Qoy Leachj. When Larry refuses to cater to their wishes to refuse to let Charley come, both Aunt Fanny and Vivian immediately throw hysterics. Their hysterics are strengthened by the arrival of Charley fMary Dee McMillan, and her Uncle Aleck Twiggs fVernon Adamsj. Instead of being a small boy, Charley is in reality, a l7fyearfold hillbilly girl. The play gets more complicated as Charley falls in love with Larry: and Aunt Fanny, Vivian and her mother, Mrs. SmythefKersey fDora Lynn Taylorj scheme to get rid of Charley and get Larry's money. Their plans are foiled with the aid of Nora, the maid fEvelyn Wortlij and Oflif cer Tim McGrill fGordon Sielerj. The only one who doesn't plot anything is Mortimer Smythef Kersey fFrank Peak, who is too bored to do anything. There are several surprises in the final act, but everything turns out happily and Charley and Larry are engaged. A great deal of credit for the success of the play goes to the makefup and production staffs who helped immeasurably in the production of the play. Miss Addison did a superb job with the direction and supervision. The Journalism Class trains pupils in the art and skill of writing for puhlication, hoth in news stories and feature stories. The task, then, of the staff is to learn what constitutes a good yearbook, make up a dummy or model, gather the written and pictorial material, and put it into proper form. The lack of continuity and the mistakes of former staffs are partially compensated by the experience of the adviser, written advice left hy former editors, and the mute testimony of the annuals of former years. The staff must decide on style and color of the cover, theme of the hook, type of layout, and amount and arrangement of space for the activities and organizations of Bremerton High School. At the same time pictures are scheduled, copy is gathered, new annuals are sold, organizations are hilled, and dealines are met. lf all these duties are faithfully carried out and if there has heen good teamwork hy each staff memher, then a good yearhook is the result. page ninclyj -t. They began the season by downing Lincoln of Portland 28 to 13. The next week the Cats took to the road to play Puyallup which ended in a 7 to 7 tie. In the first Cross State League game of the season, our grid aces rolled over Lincoln of Tacoma, 34 to 7. Taking to the road again the Cats traveled to Everett where they fought a tough battle in rain and mud, but they came out on top 7 to 6. The Wildcat's gridiron eleven romped over the South Kitsap Wolves 21 to 0 in a spectacular Homecoming game. In the next two games Bremerton fans and players were in for a letdown. Seattle Prep lashed out to defeat the Cats 18 to 0. The following game with Stadium, which was played in a river of mud was also quite a disappointment for Bremerton with the Tigers coming out on top with a 6 to O victory. The Wildcats came back in the following two games, lashing out to chalk up a 19 to 6 victory over Yakima, which was one of the outstanding upsets of the year and in the last game of the '50 grid season, the Cats whistled past the Bellingham Red Raiders by a score of 26 to 20 which ended a Hne season. l ' 7: I 4 5.5, 1 I ,Q ell, S ' 4. , ig ,fam 'siis fpage niuetyfiue A , an ,, WO MNA' wif-.af 1-Wg S J ng' can-. if if ,nw x 'W sl V- - in 7 W -A, .A-', ' S 'Ii' Wu- . . -- , . Murker won the Washington State High School div' ing championship, and David set a new state record in the 200fyard free style. The swimming season ended at the State High School swimming meet at the U. of W. where Bremerton won fourth place. Managers s, , , Q. A Blatt, Fagan, Buxton, Dobson, Mans, MU17y, Bowcott, Epps, Ross, jones. il Nothing would ever run smoothly without the managers. Some of their duties are liming the field before each game, cleaning the suits or seeing that they are cleaned, bring water to the boys, and many other things. To these boys we all owe a great deal because a team can never be a winning team without these boys behind them. fpage one hundred and five G. A. A.
