Ait ov Miss? Hit or miss is an unwritten rule of base- ball... scoring runs and winning over the op- ponent is the object of baseball. But the biggest part of baseball is not seen by the spectators. Hour upon hour of batting practice, pitching, running and catching is what makes a good team. A great deal of gratitude should be given to these boys for showing the West High spirit! TRACK ’70 TIME FOR SPEED A gun sounds and the sprinters take off at tre- mendous speeds, all with one goal in mind — to wina place ribbon in the track meet. Each individual’s effort contributes to the overall standing of the team. The members of the ’70 track team put all their efforts together and positioned West High’s ranking to third in the conference and eighth in the state. Robin Drake, a ’70 graduate of West, placed first in the State discus throw. Our mile-relay team com- posed of David Parris, Gary Orr, Johnny Holloman and Mike Sizemore finished sixth out of approxi- mately thirty schools. The ’71 track team has already started to prepare for the coming season. These fellows have been prac- ticing in the cold weather since Christmas, building up speed and better timing records. They are working toward the goal of becoming No. | in the conference. So you can see, we have a lot to be proud of!
