Dentin ee ae ee Trying Times Cheerleading is not making more noise to add to the already present confusion. Cheerleading is trying to lead the fans in an organized effort to boost the team. In return for the en- thusiasm shown by the fans, the ath- letes are willing to give 100 per cent to a victory for West. The cheerleaders have possibly the hardest job in the school, cheering for approximately forty-eight ballgames — ten football, thirty-six basketball, and two Tournament games — plus numerous wrestling matches and pep rallies. Pre-season practices account for many sore muscles, aching bodies, abnormal perspiration, headaches in preparation for the coming season. But this is only part of the many hours put into the perfection of organized cheers and appropriate chants and songs that the fans will respond to.

RE Junior Varsity cheerleaders have a pretty tough time learning the routine of a cheerleader. But they support the J.V. sportsters all the way, sharing the joy of winning and the pain of losing. This past summer they attended A.C.A. camp in Brevard along with the Varsity cheerleaders. They have done a won- derful job and deserve recognition for their work. The members of the squad are: Debbie Barnett, Captain Kathy Ashe Nancy Strickland Terri Dunlap Kathy Orr Susan Patterson
