Miss Bessie Jordan was devoted to teaching for thirty-five years, beginning her career in 1906 at the Rugby School in Henderson County. At this time, she received a salary of only $20 per month. She served in Henderson County Schools for almost thirty years. These schools in- cluded Mills River, Edneyville, Etowah, and Hendersonville. In 1924, Miss Jordan became prin- cipal of Mills River School and in 1927 went to Edneyville to serve as its principal. Miss Willie Lou Jordan has dedicated forty-one years of her life to teaching, and in all but three of these she has been in Henderson County. She has taught in Mills River, Edneyville, and West Henderson. When West Henderson High School was built, Miss Jordan became its first librarian. To Miss Bessie Jordan and Miss Willie Lou Jordan we happily dedicate this edition of the FALCON. A TRIBUTE As we look back at our high school experiences, we are conscious of our appreciation to one who has guided our footsteps through our first three years. Yes, thank-you for sticking by our side and giving us that indispensable pat on the back through both our losses and victories; ''thank-you' ' for helping us overcome the little problems that seemed so enormous to us; and, most of all, ''thank-you'' for your support. For his guidance through our Senior year, we would like to express our appreciation to Mr. Odell E. Griffin. Tohim we say, ''Welcome to West High. It is a simple, effective aid for teaching soil appreciation, an awareness of land capability, and wise and pro- fitable land use. Methods of teaching soil conservation and improvement are illustrated in land judging contests. The objective is to train larger numbers of people about the care of the land in order that they will learn how to apply conservation and improvement practices on their own land and to appre- ciate the importance of proper land care in their lives. PUBLIC SPEAKING The FFA Public Speaking Contest is designed to develop rural and agricultural leadership by providing for mem- ber participation in agricultural public speaking activities and stimulating interest along these lines. The preliminary contests are of local, sectional, state, sub-regional, and national character. David Byrd and Thaylon Stewart are semi-finalists in the public speaking contest. TOOL IDENTIFICATION These boys were the top participants in tool identification at West Henderson this year.
